What We Do
We are manufacturers of high volume fuel tanks and sawmill machinery.
Industry
Manufacturing & Wholesale
Color Preferences
Our old logo is blue and white, it might be a good idea to stay with the same colours (but feel free if your idea is better in another colour). Because we use a lot of screen printed stickers, we can't afford having more than two colours, shades or gradients. The logo will also be laser cutted in sheet metal or embossed in sheet metal, so it needs to stay good looking in just one colour.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
We are in business since 1865 but we don't want to look old. We did have a logo looking like Coca-Cola in the sixties. It wasn't a good idea! We need to tell our customers that we are at the leading edge of technology.

We think a gear might do a good pictorial mark. But take care it won't look too much as the logo of Bombardier (that company is well know here in Quebec) : http://www.moto-piece.com/casse-moto/bombardier.htm and http://www.andrejoyal.com/index.php?cPath=24_40&osCsid=1bd5585f10cadfe9d48d7a1d145252c7

Our first product was a cereal thresher. Something symbolising a cereal might be a good idea.

Simple and abstract marks are also welcomed.

But keep in mind the logo must be able to be laser cutted whitout loosing any parts (for exemple, one must take care the circle inside a O won't fall).

Nice beginning. The entries #5, #2, #3, #4 have all the letters designed so the can be laser cut. It might not be absolutely necessary : you can design the mark to be sure it can be laser cutted and design the signature without worrying about laser cutting : we might just laser cut the pictorial part of the logo. In that case, it will be the gears.

The gears and the cereal was only a suggestion, we will be happy seeing other idea also...

Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest as it progresses:

~~ Rank designs daily -- this will encourage participation.
~~ Rank and re-rank a variety of designs to get a variety of new entries.
~~ Ranking gets your contest noticed! Unless your contest is Private, 1st place entries are posted to the portfolio page: https://logotournament.com/portfolio
~~ Ranking designs daily will also keep your contest from getting cluttered.
~~ The more feedback you provide, the better results you will see.
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested".
~~ Over-use of "Not Interested" discourages participation.
~~ Ranking is a non-monetary means of showing appreciation for the Designers' hard work.
~~ Designers earn points for ranked designs. We like to earn points.

More detailed information on how to get the most out of your contest can be found here:

Hi plasticity,

Entries on a black background as #7, #8 won't be very usefull to us : it's hard to print on note paper.

Don't be afraid to give your logo some movement and abstraction. For example, we really like Arcelor-Mittal new logo http://www.arcelormittal.com/

I don't see a great difference between #5 and #6. Maybe the spacing in #6 is better.

To all designers : don't focus too much on the gear idea... My boss is not sure about that symbol.

An horse might be an idea. Anything : Surprise us!

You can propose something more abstract.

You're right : I can leave personnal messages to designers. It might happen, but in the previous cases, I rather like to make my comments viewable by everybody so they will get an idea of what we are expecting...

The horse #16 is very nice looking. I didn't gave it a better rank just because it doesn't suit properly our business. The combination of the wheat and the horse is a bit too much. My boss was concerned as it might give the idea we are a stable or veterinarians... Don't put too much time on the horse avenue, that symbol will finally be tough to adopt.

Lets play with the letters I & D (as Plasticity did with #2). They could be more abstracted or 3D...

I'll try to give some comments during the weekend.

I changed a bit my mind about shades and gradients : use them if you think they might be pertinent but make sure the logo will stay nice looking without them also. That way, we might have one version shaded for printing and one version with no shade for laser cutting...

Proposal #23 is very nice. We like the "i & D" assembly, the way the colours are handled and the way the company's name is written.

But! We are still not sure about the gear idea. My boss would like to see something else. Can you replace the gear by an abstract geometric form?

Thanks

Hi Dapc79, your last proposal #25 are very interesting.

We would like to try only the "iD" without the form at the backgroung...

Thanks

Hi Af,

We like your #4. It lack a bit of dynamism but I'm sure you can improve it. Play with it a bit. Also, try to solve the problem with the dot of the "i" wich might fall if we laser cut the logo in steel metal.

As I wrote in previous comments, you can play with shades and gradients if you want : we might adapt a flat logo for laser cutting and I'll use the winning logo (with shades) for printing...

I liked your #32 and #33 but my boss (he have the last word!), told it could be nice for a "plumber". I must agree with him...

Thanks

Wow great job!

I did a ranking but it might change : my boss haven't give his comments yet.

The #40 may have some success. I really like the I & D combination like a @. But I would like to see the gear removed: just play with the i and D.

About #35 #36 and #42, they are all interesting. I'll have to wait for comments from my CEO before making more comments...
