Building the visual of the church through typographic shapes. Creating something unique but with easy legibility. At a glance you'll understand this is a church. The reverse 1 gives it that extra intrigue that makes you look at it longer because of the tension it causes. Likewise the reverse 1 is also the element that completes the church roof, creating a calm association. Because of how many angels are being created by the 1's, the colors are kept simple and clean. Likewise the type in church is kept very straight forward and elegant so all the attention is on the 1 to 1.
Using large 1's joined by the "to" we create a lockup that can then be cutout to let the eye form the shape of the cross. The "to" helps to bridge the top of the cross, thus continually drawing the eye to that element instead of the 1's, which by themselves read as 'news channel 11'. With no closing element at the bottom of the cross opening when the eye runs down it stops at the word "church". Every element of the logo is used to pull together the overall intent.
Thanks for the entries. I am thinking #4 could be helped by the general feedback that says, Add Hutchinson Wesleyan. And what about a perpenducular church.org running along the number 1 on the right?
