Hi :) here are my initial solutions:

#21 / #22 - could be any color, simple treatments with an arrow in the U of Uprising or the O of Hope

#23 - stylized dove lying upwards

Hey Josh,

Thanks for your entries. I'm not really crazy about the dove, but it was a great idea. I can see how it connects with hope but we're after something way more edgy since we're a bold group working to bring hope in drug infested communities. #21/#22 are nice and clean but a little bit too plain I think. I just made some adjustments and provided more details in the contest brief if you want to check that out. Thanks again for your entries. You're a talented designer!

Really nice logo, Josh. Just not sure it's a perfect fit for us yet. The lantern is very cool but I'm not sold on it within the logo for us. Could you try replacing the lantern with a flame and and maybe encapsulate the logo somehow so that the logo is not just textual but becomes more of an object on its own? Does that make sense?

Still waiting to get feedback from my boss, but I had an idea... What if the match was laying flat almost as an underline, under #70 - so that it becomes clear that the match started the "wild fire" that you see above? Could you foresee that working or being cool?

It's funny you say that - I'm a huge "tshirt guy" (I used to do a lot of boutique apparel work and easily have 300+ tshirts...), so I typically design logos with tshirt extension in mind.

Cool! I just looked at your flickr page and you have a lot of nice stuff on there. I really love the DMB soccer shirt!!!

One thought that I'm having with the design that you've been working on is how well will it translate when just one color black or white? Is it typical to give contest winners multiple renders of a design at the end of the contest -- ie. one full color, one solid black, one solid white, etc.?

Yep - alternate color options are to be provided per request as part of the contract. I think the logo would work fine in single color...fire's a pretty recognizable shape regardless of the color. I can have a single color up soon if you want to check it out.

Here's a new idea to respond to the latest public comment. I tried to minimally show community / help by depicting two different people. They can be seen either shaking hands or the top person helping the bottom person up. The style is intended to mimic the power / raised fist ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raised_fist ) but helping instead. I think it could work in 3 colors, 2 colors (not shown - but orange background with white hands) or single color black. The type is reversed out of the shape to give it a homegrown / stencil-graffiti feel that would work for urban settings, but it's not so "urban" that it would be out of place in a small-town community.

Hey Josh, a few things... could you do #77 with a font other than the spray painted/stamped, and make uprising a little bit shorter, clean up the flames, & add the upward arrow like you did in #78?

I just took off the extra bit (it was customized / added, so it was easy to remove) and shortened the bottom type. I wasn't sure if you wanted the overall "distressed effect" removed completely, or just the bit on the type, so I did both ways. I also drew the flames a few different ways. Let me know if there's a particular direction you want to pursue - or - if there's anything else you'd like me to try?

Can we discuss what isn't working? What do you feel is missing? (Obviously you don't know exactly what's missing - or you'd just say "do this" - haha) Is there an aspect that you feel needs to be addressed that's isn't?

What about stylized wordmarks? Is that something to consider, or are you wanting a definite icon to accompany the text?

So I was wondering if you can do a quick change to #90. Can you try a different font? And can we try it with "uprising" in black letters?

Here's the font from the previous entry...I think the tight kerning and san serif font would work well as it's used a fair amount within the hardcore music scene. I tried it a few different ways - with / without the arrow, with the flame, horizontal, etc. I can definitely try other fonts...any style that you'd like to try, just let me know. I'll be in & out throughout the door (heading out the door right now...our kids are at my parents' house still, so we're going Christmas shopping :) )

Hey Josh, sorry to hear you are feeling bad. I'll be praying for you. I have no other changes to make to the design. :) I do hope to somehow stay in contact with you after this contest ends. I'm not sure what the rules are with that....
