I wanted to make a logo with a strong military feel as well as a patriotic feel. I also wanted it to be masculine.

Cool design. A couple of things. Could you try to incorporate a small date somewhere -- like the other top contender right now. Also, definitely needs to say "Scotty Smiley." And I'd like to see a version like this with a landscape orientation in addition to vertical (if possible). This is good. Thanks!

Here are the revisions.
I googled Scotty Smiley and read his story. It's very touching.
We are lucky to have men like him fighting for our freedom and this country.
If you are leaning towards my design I will be honored to work until it's a perfect fit for the cause!
Thanks, Jill

Jill,
We are leading toward your design. My wife loves it. My teenagers love it. Well done. The group that is putting the event together had some concerns about the name I chose. Could you possible keep the same design, but put Scotty Smiley in blue and red and then in the black part put: in celebrating the launch of his book Hope Unseen. The soldier could go in the "o" in Scotty.

This would also require you to mix in the word "Join" somewhere above Scotty's name. So the whole thing would read: "Join Scotty Smiley in celebrating...

Also, if you could make it look like the soldier has a beret on rather than a cap, that would be super.

Hope this is not too much to ask.

Hi,
Here are the revisions. I am showing 2. One with the solider in the O in Scotty the other in the O in hope.
I did my best to make a beret. Thanks for the kind words. Let me know if you want changes.
Thanks a lot. Jill

Hi Jill,

A couple more small things. Could you make Smiley bigger and Hope Unseen smaller? We would like Scotty's name to dominate slightly. Maybe a couple of different sizes as samples. We'd also like the date to pop out more -- either by making it bigger or colored.

We might have a few more changes after the end. Would you be okay with adjusting even after the contest is over?

Thanks,
Doug

here are the changes. I am showing 2 versions. I made one more horizontal to make scotty's name larger.
Any revisions please let me know.
I would be happy to continue working with you after the contest closes.
Thanks!

okay. good stuff. i think i'm down to last two changes. let's keep the date the way it was. i think it looks better with the whole bottom portion in black. and let's put the saluting soldier back in scotty's name (even on the horizontal version). this will protect from brand confusion with the actual book title.

once those are done, i'll end the contest. congrats! we really like it.

Hello,
Here are the revisions. I am submitting 4. 2 horizontal, 2 vertical. The difference being the date being in red as opposed to white. Any more revisions please let me know. THANKS A BUNCH!

Okay. So #52 looks super. However, I like how the other guy did the date 09.18.10 and made it prominent. Maybe you could cut the box off underneath Hope Unseen and then have the date and in big black letters, just below the box. Then right under that, in smaller letters could be Toyota Center -- Tri-Cities, WA

I'll take a look at that and then promise to end the contest. :) Sorry. But it's getting a bit better (for what we want) each time. And I just started to think that if we make the date bigger at the bottom, we could actually fit in the words "Toyota Center"

I have another contest called "Admit Insights." It's for less money ($275), but take a shot at that one if you'd like.

Hi,
Here are the revisions. I am uploading 3 versions. I made the graphic a little larger to fit the larger date.
with one date in red and one in white. Also, I did like you suggested and put the date at the bottom outside the box. Any revisions just let me know. Thanks!

I think this was a little bit unfair and it does not look good. It looks a little bit like prejudice. Next time dougcrandall, it would be better if you sent some of these comments in a private message. At least it wouldn't be so obvious.

You have to give the impression that you are judging fairly and not "taking sides". You kinda stopped giving feedback on my designs and started helping another designer with little elements from my design. That does not look right and it doesn't feel fair to me.

Jill even launched a Logo Court case against me to have my designs removed. It felt embarrassing to have other designers voting, saying I was copying her work when I was trying to meet your needs and interests.

This was a really bad experience!

Good luck with all you do!
