We have just posted this comment for all designers:
We have been reviewing all the logos and would like to give it a more beach/tropical vibe. The owners love to surf, love adventure, and would like to convey this in the logo. We understand its important to keep the "business side" in the logo but, we would also like to make click with younger generations. Finally, we believe that by portraying adventure and beach we also show we are risk takers and like to innovate.
I wanted to let you know that I decided to withdraw my entry #24, as a fellow designer pointed out it was very similar to an already existing logo, and I want you to have a unique logo for your company.
- Print quality. We are a bit worried the logo with its fine lines will be print poorly. - Color: can we try mixing in some blue and or green? Or changing the color altogether. - Some of our associates did not like the oval "mask" you used to give the leaf its shape. Maybe try simulating a real Nacascolo tree leaf?
-Crazy new idea (aside from the other feedback): Is there a possibility of incorporating a beach / surf element? Or will that "pollute" the logo?
My thoughts: - I could put more space in between the lines that make up the leaf, ensuring that it will print better. - I will post a few more color versions for you to look at. - Could you point me in the direction of a characteristic Nacascolo tree? Maybe the name of the tree?
As for the beach/surf element, I think it might indeed pollute the logo, but not only that, make it confusing as to what the company is. However, if you feel strongly about seeing such elements, let me know and I will try to incorporate them.
Please check out my recent entries. I explored with the idea of the revised leaf. My favorite one is #124, as it's a play on the letter "N" and the leaves.
Regarding the surf idea, we agree with your observation and think we should not continue with it.
Do you think you could try to play with the seed of the Nacascolo tree and see how it looks like? We believe it could be a symbol to emulate natural growth.
Please take a look at #125, #126, #127, #128. These are very abstract takes on the seed. Not only can the seed curl in a multitude of ways, I found that drawing very faithful representations of the seed looked very unintelligible, so I decided to take a more geometric route, and present it as a very clean and simple curve, surrounding the little balls I was able to see in some of the pictures of the seeds. I especially like the way that #126 could also be taken to represent an ocean wave, and the way #128 has a lot of synergy to it.
Hi Ted, Love the seed logos, as well as the leaf logo currently ranked as #1. We are very close to everyone approving the logo, we still have a seed / leaf discussion. I browsed through the logos you have made, and they are really good. So I wanted to ask you, do you think we can make a last variant incorporating the leaf or / and seed into a circular / seal kind of logo. Similar to the one you designed for Phoenix Knife House?
Hi Ted, First of all thanks! The, good news: It appears we have consent on the logo ranked as #1 (#129). We have a couple of observations: - Get rid of the "Grupo". We'll just use "Nacascolo" - There is some worry that the logo will not look well embroidered on shirts (we use work shirts with the logo on the upper left on the chest). Due to its fine lines. Do you think you can work something out or should we compromise in this aspect? - Some people claim the green is too bright, others want orange... what do you recommend? (we'll stick to what you recommend since you are the designer)
I'm sure the embroidering will look well. I wouldn't worry too much. The lines are simple and they look good at a small scale. I doubt the size of the emblem embroidered on the shirts will be smaller than the previews in the contest.
I can suggest a couple of other greens for comparison's sake. I personally like the green and the orange. I think the orange is more reminiscent of the beach/sun, and the green is reminiscent of the forest, so this would be up to you. I think both are good options.
We'll stick with #122. Just get rid of the "Grupo". And if possible make the leafs a bit thicker and separated, so we can make the shirts without problem. That green color is OK. Thanks!
