Love your work so far and the only guy to have capitalized on the brief and went with the gas can so well done we are impressed. Like getting the Aussie designs so make us proud! Now if I can make one comment that may assit in pushing the logo a bit further would be to try to make it appear a bit more 3D in nature or pressed from metal or a piece of chrome. Love the font you used as well good work man all the best and good luck with the outcome.
Thanks for the comment. This is such an awesome concept - your brief sounds like a dream location. The words "salt flats" got me hooked. I'm a big fan of all things Deus so, well, it's just great to be involved - I'll give it my vest shot. Thanks for the comment - I'll keep it in mind. I just had the petrol tin idea and it just had to be rendered in that style.
Plenty of time to tweak and see what other ideas I might have.
Went over your designs with my partner and we have flipped you into the #1 spot. Love the concept so far also me know what you think about the use of a Vintage Gas (Petrol) Pump as well, hopefully you have time to explore this as well? Yeah Deus is an awesome brand they make some rad bikes and the cafe is pretty special as well, we hope our brand will one day be as recognized and well regarded. Have you been to Deus shop?
Ha! I hadn't read your comment Dean re petrol pump. Well it must be a good idea then. See what you think. (by the way it's a custom illustration - no copyright issues! Take that as read with all my work)
No I haven't been to a Deus shop - seen a lot of photos of their shops – but I look forward to my "Oily Rag" in my inbox. Their design is always spot on. Often visit the Deus site for a browse. Their photography and design is just perfect. Always inspiring.
That's about me done for Sunday night. Cheers, Mike
Yeah my partner and I love the Deus Vibe as well the owner is the orginal owner of Mambo he knows how to market products very well and the Deus brand is surely gaining strength here in Australia and Europe, we would be happy with just inhaling some of some of their fumes.
Hey got another idea what do you think about a V-Twin Engine as an alternate image probably overdone but maybe worth a look?
"inhaling some of some of their fumes" - could surely do no harm.
V-twins - yep, surely worth exploring - Vincent etc.
I'll start thinking on it.
I'm thinking that keeping the actual logo relatively simple is a good thing – for when it's applied to all sorts of media. The ability for it to work in one flat colour is important – think engraving it into metal, glass etc, or t-shirt printing.... just some thoughts.
Didn't get to touch this today. And still thinking on the V-twin idea. I have one concern in that bike people being bike people – we all have our favourite engines/brands. Just throwing a spanner in there! Having a V-twin sort of pigeon-holes the brand slightly.
Do I have a case? Just thought we could discuss.
Maybe if the engine image was simplified so it was not brand-specific.
I suppose something like a Vincent 1000 is iconic enough to appeal to anyone.
I'll get back to my drawing board and scratch my head for a while...
Hey DJ, just a note about that design. I'm liking the fact that the type is separate to the icon. I can see something like this on a t-shirt, the motor icon large on the back, the full logo smaller on the front. Having said that there's nothing wrong with an integrated design, such as my petrol pump one - I suppose separate elements gives you a bit more flexibility later on.
Welcome back! Looks a bit busy with the engine in there although I do think the concept could work just not 100% sure. What I would like to see would be same design (99) with perhaps a flame the shape of a "G" do you think that would be possible?
Thanks, been busy! Yeah, it doesn't quite have the punch of the other designs. I'll keep thinking on it - I have another engine sketched which is more Harley-ish - longer barrels and a bit simpler in shape. The thing with a motor is you start looking at details and a V-twin is quite a complex beast. And I think the old ones look better than the newer shapes. Overall it's a bit of a can of worms – should it look like a specific engine? If not, how to illustrate a non-specific one..... etc etc. I'll give it another shot if I can produce something simpler/more graphic.
Flame – now that could be worth exploring. Fits in with the retro theme for sure. Leave it with me.
Mike
ps, looking up bike stuff on the web got me drooling over lots of old machinery..... ha, probably did a bit too much "research".
I explored the G-flame - I could not get it working with the 'wings' - and the flames just don't seem to sit well with the retro look. It's probably because they're from a decade later and clash with those more 50/60's motifs.
Here's an interesting design that came out of it anyway – see what you think. It has a retro feel but it's modern.
Dean's wife putting her two cents in tonight as it was my idea to put a G/flame in there and I love the G design#100, like you say retro feel but modern. I also love the 'wings' of #99 and the oval emblem. I would love to possibly see the G (without the drop shadow) inside the #99 instead of the engine. Then I would like to see a more chrome/liquid version of the G flame inside the oval emblem.
I like the idea of using the whole thing as a badge on the bikes and just the G for the restaurant menus etc and mixing it up on the merchandise.
So it's a family affair - well that's always good. I'm glad that you're liking the G. It sort of evolved from a lot of sketches and it wasn't what I was planning but the end result felt really cool. I'll take a look at your suggestions.
Gotta say we love your work so far your designs stand out from the rest. Love the flaming "G" although the team still loves the orginal gas can. I appreciate to you coming back on the concepts we enquired and you always came to us as though you have grasped our concept as a whole. Judging begins tomorrow good luck with the outcome. Lastly if successful would Gasolina own all of your created designs?
Wow, glad to hear. Yes, the G is working well, but the gas can does capture something special and timeless. Both would work so I'm glad to have two solid options for you, well more than two with the petrol pump etc.
Just so you know if I was lucky enough to have one of these logos chosen I'd like to really fine tune it and make sure I and you are 100% happy. It really needs to be spot on. At this point they're all about 85% there but things like colours and textures need to be sorted. And of course any design tweaks that need careful adjustment.
As far as all the concepts, you'd own the winning one (with a copyright form created on this site) – usually what happens on Logotournament is that if a contest holder wants other designs it's negotiated privately after the contest end. I would be happy to discuss – no worries at all. The thing is I would like to make sure anything that was done was finished off to a really high standard – I wouldn't want to deliver a bunch of not-quite-there designs. So there'd be a cost we'd need to discuss.
Anyway, good luck with judging. In case it's not clear, during judging you can re-rank as much as you like — the person at #1 rank only can upload any new variations on their designs. So if you wanted something from a few people you'd need to move each person to #1 at various times in order for them to upload.
Been extremely busy the last few days so my responses have probably seemed quite sporadic. Agree with you and also my partner that the Gas can appears timeless we love this design. We will do final judging tonight and tomorrow then lets see where to go from there. If we do accpet your design then we would be interested in talking to you outside of LT to possibly discuss web design as well and the buying the EPS files for the other logos as well. Talk soon.
