Thanks for these two entries. They are very elegant, with a good level of abstraction and a nice simplicity. The only concern I have is that it could be deemed to imply that the site only serves the important but limited birder market. I know it is hard to work in the variety of species that are going to be addressed but somehow I need the logo to not cause users to turn away because of imagined coverage limitations.
