I really like your box on the left, but I'm not a fan of how the 3 on the right looks.

Hmm, it makes it seem too busy at the end. What if you went back to original and simply made the last "3" one of the shades as the big 3?

Clever use of negative space. I like the color splash. Can I see a version where you use something similar on the number 3?
