My entries. I created a camera character with one eye being the lens attached to an air balloon to emphasize the tourists aspect. Let me know what you think. The balloon symbolizes the world.
hey luke. really like what youve given. wish you were submitting the whole contest, i would have loved to see your range. i really like the font you picked, and color combination. although everyone has done blue and green, yours just work better. we like the ballon but not sure how ,much we can use it however i like the "world" aspect. maybe you could put the camera next to fotoco and some how put the world in the lens of the camera.
i think you are on to something and i really like where your head is at. keep them coming.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yeah, I have been working on other contests aswell that were really time consuming. Normally I submit at the very beginning and grow into the contest with feedback used.
good stuff. keep them coming. anything else u can do even without the globe wed like to see. also the one with the world in the lens. can we see the camera blue and the "fotoco" green. as to make the world pop more.
really like 202. and like the first font you used better than the new one.
2 different ideas we'd like to see.
1. revert back to the old font and both lowercase letters (f and c). rather than the capitals. we like the idea of "foto" in bold and "co" unbold. with the 202 color scheme. blue water and font with green camera.
2. we'd also just like to see your camera next to the font Bullpen 3D with the 202 color scheme. probably with both with captials and without capitals.
okay those are the ideas that we would like to see. we really like your design and feel the globe captures the mission of our company really well.
okay in terms of the overall style of the logo. we really like the glare/ shadow technique that a lot famous of logos use (apple, even the apps on the iphone have the glare/shadow). just the common technique i feel among famous logos. It makes it look like an actuall object in a white back drop. we think that if those elements could be added to the logo it would really enhance it.
#209 - changed back the font #210 - foto bold / co regular #211 - lighting and shadowing on the camera, to make it stand out more #212 / #213 / #214 - bullpen font variations
loving it. one thought, in order to close the globe, can you put an outline around the globe in green, but only on the land?
in one of your earlier drafts the land is filled in green and then there is a green outline around the white water. could you just close the white space with green on the edges of the land, just to close it in.
also can you do one more quick thing. can you just increase the overall size of both the words and logo. the measurements and proportions are perfect, just wanna make it bigger.
#227 - larger version of 220. I think this one is better without the green outline, because the white outline on the edge of the lens makes the water become closed in.
Now I look closer at #226 the green outline really emphasizes the lens part. It now looks the globe is actuallly captured inside the lens and shows some sort of depth in it.
yeah i feel the same way. i first thought ifthe green touched the water it would not work but i see your point. but i like the concept of making the lens real distinctive. ive showed it to multiple people and they say the lens looks like a frogg. haha i didnt even notice so im glad i got their opinion.
i wanna print this logo big on tshirts so i dont want it to be hard to identify. do you have any thoughts on how we could increase the depth of the lens. i look at like instagrams logo and obviously a purely digital logo, but i feel it could be captured within ours.
is there a way to make the lens more identifiable i guess is the question. maybe make it look like its a long lens for a good size camera, (DSLR).
also i am looking for your honest opinion as a artist. does the globe look better with green land or the blue water? obviously we would have to switch the colors of foto, co and the camera so it alternates the same, but when you see it, do you see the frog or the globe first? im concerned that when i print it, it may not translate well if the "ink" is the negative space. essentially i would love if it could because i feel no one would forget it once they saw it, but im afraid it will look like a mess if the "circle" of the lens is really identifiable you know.
let me know your thoughts. love your stuff luke
but now that the "frog" came to be, im gonna have to make it the honorary mascot of the company.hahah
First of all, can you give me a clarification if you do like the "frog" or not? I think it's really funny people say it's a frog! Hahaha. I can easy take that aspect away by changing the cut of the globe, as I can understand you don't want people to associate you with a frog!
To increase the depth of the lens I did the following:
#232 - front view of the lens, with the inner sections dark and a shadow on the left as the light comes from the right.
#234 - changed the angle of the lens slightly to the right to gain another kind of depth then 232 does. Same direction the light is coming from.
For comparison:
#233 - swapped the colors. As you can see the blue is the stronger color and thus has more attention. So the focus here is on the blue parts: the camera and the co. I think this is wrong. You will want to have the focus on the lens and the foto. Since they capture what your company does.
My opinion:
I would definately say Green camera, blue water. The lens is the focus and since the globe is a small part of the camera it has to be blue to come out strong. And I'm sure this can be printed really fine.
hhahah. the frog was a complete accident and I definitely do not want people to mistake the globe for a frog. i want to make sure people know its a globe at first glance. so if you can maybe turn the globe a little, or cut it differently, to remove that possibility of confusion that would be awesome. use your discretion when you change the position e, I'm wondering if somehow we can close off the white space, it may be easier to identify.
my only thing i thought would be funny in the long run, is if we just use the as a mascot, in which case i would owe you compensation since it was your work haha.
i definitely agree with what you are saying about the colors. the green camera and blue water looks better and makes more sense
i think 235 is my favorite, when it comes to the lens. what is your take on that idea? your input is just as valuable as mine, don't hesitate to vocalize your thoughts.
my only thing, and sorry i keep bugging you about this and you may not be doing this because you know the resolution of the graphic, but can we increase the size of the overall logo even more? do you think it is going to get distorted if you do? i really like it when logos and names just pop and catch your eye and i feel like we have the space, so why not right? i am planning on printing it on tshirts and i want it BIG on the back of the shirt you know, so i don't want to increase the size for the shirt and have it be distorted.
i look at one of your first logos with the globe as the balloon. and notice the detail right around europe and really love that. obviously that is too big, but see what you can do, i feel like you got something up your sleeve.
Oke thanks for the clarification, I'm glad it was just for the giggles, haha. I uploaded 3 new designs with some variations styles on the name and a new globe. #238 #237 #236
I also got rid of the white space around the globe. So now only the white parts are land. I darkened the water a bit with a gradient blue, to make the land stand out more. And the land is now surrounded totally by water. These changes really help to eliminate the frog. I don't see a frog anymore now, no matter how I look. Do you?
About the lens, yes I agree 235 is the best. This is because it totally matches the way the depth is created. With the lighting and shadowing. So the whole icon is the same style.
About the resolution. Don't worry. All the designs here on LT are made out of vectors. No pixels. Because the file is based on vectors you can scale your logo as large or as small as you want. Pixels will become distorted and vectors don't. If you print your logo on a businesscard or large on a billboard, it won't lose it's quality. And for personal portfolio reasons I would like to have some white space around the designs.
Please note that my timezone is +7 according to yours. So most of the time I get your comments in the night.
Don't worry about the time difference man. Totally understand. I'm actually jealous I'm not in the same time zone. Just spent 6 months traveling Europe so I was there not to long ago. Made it to Amsterdam too so I was pumped to see u were from netherlands, such a vibrant culture. Loved it.
the logo 236 is my favorite. Love the globe. Nd i like the shadow effect on the fotoco better than the gradient The water around definitely eliminates the frog totally. Nd the gradient blue is perfect. Exactly what it needed to emphasize the shape along with the lens glare aspect. Awesome stuff. ANd the big camera is the best thing ever. Such a great way to see it. Do u think we could also have the files of just the camera?
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you like the changes. Yeah a lot of people coming here like it. I live about 30 minutes from Amsterdam.
About the files; Here on LT you will receive a .eps with full logo and a .jpg 1000x800 of the logo. If you need any other files (such as the camera alone) they can be send by email after the contest is complete, that's no problem.
sweet. yeah i was wondering about the camera file cause that woud be awesome to have by itself and fotoco by itself.
our next thought was the color of our tshirts. we were thinking a nice yellow. we want to stand out of a crowd. i think the blue green yellow color scheme goes really well together too. any thoughts? you have another color in mind?
also, we were interested in talking to you about the possibility of doing other designs for us. we are looking for 2 different business card designs and possibly the tshirt itself. we have been looking on the business card websites and although they print them, their designs are very limited and more very over used. the designs of them show up everywhere for start up companies and students -especially photographers and whatnot, so we want to establish ourselves with original logos and products obviously.
also I have been meaning to ask you, if you are a full time graphic designer, or a student or something? just curious in how long you've been working.
I think yellow will look great! I'm not allowed to talk about additional designs, while the contest is still active. This is to keep it fair for all the participants and follow the rules of LT. They encourage us to do other stuff, but only if a winner has been picked and outside LT. I hope you understand.
I have my own business in graphic design for 1,5 year now. So yeah, I work full time in this industry. I mainly focus on logo/web and print design.
