Hi Tim! I like it! It is a bit busy but then firework bursts are colorful.Perhaps punch it up w a few gold or silver accents? Like the stars and the way you did the I in indiana. I guess maybe a bit more contrast between the name and the slogan but you are the artist- you decide. Also I need the word fireworks to be the one word that stands out from the text, if possible. thanks for the good effort!
Hello and thank you very much for the feedback, it's very helpful as we start. I'll work on some variations and I know exactly what you mean about more contrast between the name and slogan.
These are a few variations of the first two designs I submitted. I can easily mix and match, so if there is something on one that you would like to see with another please let me know.
Hi Gold rim ( more elegant over the red) Of- center it over the word indiana for balance Proud to be loud on the bottom portion of the rim if tubes are used try changing the mortar color to contrast- black, gold, candy strip- silver or gold spray ok. Guess I am trying to get the right balance of gold, silver, blue, red, white etc. Not restricted to a circle... could work for stickers on packages, cartons, shirts not sure I would use it as web logo tho. take a look at graphics at boomtown fireworks contest. I do not have a preconceived notion of look. fireworks of indiana is a new class b display operation specializing in retail display fireworks to corporations Boom town caters to public/internet traffic. 50% word of mouth... 50% internet. Known for NOISE/LOUD- think nascar/speed/fast energy
This is a variation on #5 with a silver outline around the blue stars to make them pop more. I also made "Proud to be loud" a darker red for some more contrast.
I wanted to show you one more with the circle using the variations you mentioned and trying to balance red, white, blue, silver and gold. i do understand what you mean about the badge look, and that it might be good for stickers and some things. I have a couple more ideas that go in a different direction.
Tim I like it when the stars have "hang time" WIth this latest we have the "of" in the right place but it just looks washed out esp the word fireworks shows up pink. The 3rd,4th,6th ranked internals -even the 12th ranked red stars look better than what is currently in the circle. Try taking the 3rd and 5th ranked ones and just taking the proud to be loud with the red background and place it in the bottom of the outer circle. take the 4th ranked and give the tubes a more visible spray color and we might be closer to something that jives.
Re the first ranked one... I like it cause of it being unfettered ( much like fireworks and the freedom to express) I think it would work on print/web/shirts and seems to work well with the name. I do not want to get too too playful but can you amuse me with turning either the o in works (red cherry bomb) or the o in of ( black m'80) both w a gold wick. Do Not play w both o's in the same drawing as we now would have too much distraction... or in another adaptation take the i in the diana part and send a modest spray up and over the works part? in the original ranked 1 sketch with no other changes to it. Might be too too cutesy... but then again....
I like your efforts to get it right. I am only doing this once and I have to look at it daily for the rest of my life.
The current 3rd and 5th designs with the red "Proud to be loud" in the bottom and "Of" centered over Indiana. #23 and #24 There is also the current 4th place design with a brighter spray and I changed the tubes to black as mentioned earlier. #25 I also took the current 3rd place and replaced the gold stars with sharper silver stars so it doesn't look washed out. #26 I then took that one and added the black tubes to is as another option. #27
Thanks again for the feedback, and it's no problem working through these. It takes a while sometimes to narrow things down because there are so many variables. I think I speak for a number of designers here in saying we always want to come up with the best one we can for the person holding the contest. Please don't hesitate to ask for any mix and match or color changes you'd like.
Hi- I know this is hard to do online... would be so much quicker sitting next to you but... drawings ranked 1 add the cherry bomb effect as well and then take the line above the slogan and make it be the fuse igniting the stars ( ie the line becomes det cord w a match effect on the left side like it is burning/igniting the stars.
try adding the mortars on the 6th rank drawing to the 4th rank drawing to liven it a bit. only reason 9th rank is that low is you have the slogan outside rather than inside/part of the bottom circle.
Here's the small one over "works" in the original first place design. A version of that might look good in the current number one..I can put that together so you can see what it looks like. I just read the latest comments( thanks again!) and will work on those tomorrow. I do know what you mean about easier in person, but no worries with the changes and I don't mind trying any ideas you might have in addition to submitting new one's I think up so please don't hesitate to let me know. Take care, Tim
Hi- you seem to be the only one in this contest. I have a slight "oops" I am going to need what ever is the final choice to be capable of being Fireworks of Indiana for print but the website is fireworksindiana.com Perhaps needing to go either way will decide which style works best for both wordings. May have to up the reward since I making you work so hard. thanks, M
Here are a couple with a different fuse look on the line over "Proud to be Loud".
I'm sure there will be other designers entering, sometimes it's slow until the 3-4 day and usually when there are just a couple of days left there are a lot of entries.
Here is a more simple design as another option that would work with the website name as well. It's simpler but it still keeps the movement and action of fireworks.
HI- I liked all 3 of the black background ones created. Of course I have no idea what my biz partner likes so I asked him to take a look since we are more or less trying to perfect these 3 different looks you have created. I can see any of these adaptations working for fireworks of indiana. I am guessing here but I think Nicholas.crumlett@americaneagle.com will want to use one of the 1st 3 ranked on the website home page. I would want to use the 4th ranked one on business cards and stationary cause it would suck less ink thru the printer. As for the circular one I would say it might make a good sticker to put on cardboard cases/invoice/manifests/bills of lading and we may be able to find a manufacturer who could create rolls of these. I use Katherine at www.pyronovelities.com for shirts/caps/attire and she could best decide what will translate to fabric(a good spring time project)
Of course I am still trying to control the urge to have you take the i's in the three topped ranked and have a bit of color spray shooting up. It's that urge to fire up that never goes away.
I'm glad you liked them. I do like the glow in number one. It's certainly no trouble for me to add some spray to the "I"s so you can see how it looks. I also thought I would put one up like number 1 but with silver stars, as just another option to show you.
I fired this one up. I made the flame on the cherry bomb look real with a glow around it, and added spray to the "i" in Indiana so you could see what it looks like.
This is a change on #42 (currently in second) with the glow added to the center of the burst to make it pop and the flame made more lifelike on the cherrybomb.
Tim- add the glow to the center burst to the card you did now ranked #6. the glow draws the eye into the design. It didnt work for me on the sticker. it is busy enough without adding more in that tight a space. Like the silver stars too ( ranked #2) because it provides needed contrast. Sort have the stars dancing around the glowing full moon or sun effect.
I wanted to show you one very minor change which was moving "FireworksIndiana.com" a little lower. It changes the look a bit by making the fireworks look a bit higher in the sky. Just an option, and if you prefer that I can easily change the others if desired.
Tim- I think tightening it up w the .com underneath is better. I think bigger proportions are better too! I even like the the slogan curving the burst. So let's keep that one and just do it with silver stars as well so i can decide silver or gold??? I do not think proud to be loud should be lifted on any of the other formats. thanks for all the focus on getting it right! Marilyn
Hello, Thanks again for your feedback. I'll repeat that treatment with the silver one shortly. It's no trouble at all trying to get it right as you mentioned you were only doing this once so if one of mine ends up being it, I didn't want you thinking, "I wish that was a little different".
As requested, here is #58 done with the silver stars. I did #60 as well as it was in second at the moment, just so you could see that one and I'll leave it at that unless you ask to see it in any of the others.
On the chance that a horizontal layout is preferable for a website header image, I changed the layout of the top 2. Of course, they would probably be much bigger on a web page than in the 300px wide image here but I wanted to show you the layout.
Just another idea I had in the sketchpad that I wanted to show. I can do this in any of the other color combinations or on white of course if you want to see any of those.
take #49 which is the blue stars and work it up like either #69 or 78 but drop it on a white background. Yes we can use any of your work dark background is fine on biz cards but NOT on the web site. so it has to be able to move and look good on a white screen. added bonus if it plays also on black. I know you have versatility, are working the hardest and have the strongest sense of what I want. now we have to keep the web site team happy.
goals capture the imagination of the world clean, clear, memorable design WOW factor on both white/black backdrops.
These are the workups of the #49 blue stars using the layouts of #69 and #78. I did one set with blue letters and one set with red letters. I can try some more variations tomorrow.
Hello, I realize this one is in black and gold, but I had worked on it before your note and wanted to show it to you. Just let me know if you want to see this one using the blue stars on a white background. Just another option.
Tim We sure know the versatility of your work/infinite possibilities to play with the basics. For the sake of trying to finalize this for the web. two more attempts first one goes:
#49 blue stars left #59 letter components - fireworks RED indiana BLUE flame underneath running to word .com all on white background keep the cherry bomb red in fireworks keep the flame in the I of indiana you can choose to wrap proud to be loud around the bottom of the starburst or just run it under the match flame if it is not too crowded wordy looking if going under perhaps angle it for readability?
I love all your work and nothing is wrong with any of it. I love the latest too with the stars coming out to play. We are known manufacturers of a popular #200 aerial bomb for sake of accuracy/recall/imprinting their memory banks it would be great to use #83 but how to get it translated to a white backdrop as well? So 2nd attempt would be aerial bombs with stars exploding out left Name with what colors work on white background flame running to .com proud to be loud under match flame/fuse line or what ever works and is readable.
I am meeting with my staff, some customers,a banking partner and I am unveiling your work to show off and find a consensus of opinion of what speaks best to our operation. thanks, Marilyn
Thank you very much for all the comments. I'll work those up this evening as I'm out running errands this afternoon.
Quick question. I'm not sure which one #59 was as I withdrew it, probably because of a very minor change where I would have uploaded a new one shortly thereafter. Is it the same letter components as #58 / #60?
Also, just to be sure I understand the flame running to .com, something like in #35?
I actually already have most of these done, as I have a lot of variations as I've worked through them.
