Ryo:

First, I would like to thank you for your submission. Of the entries so far, you have really nailed his likeness in the way I had pictured in my head. Nice job!

Now that I can see the facial image, I have a few suggestions. I hope that is okay (I'm new to this process).

1. Please look up the KFC logo (Kentucky Fried Chicken). Their newest image (I believe 2007) has the Colonel's likeness in a four-sided shape (kind of a square tilted on its side a little). I will try to upload an image but you can Google "KFC Logo" and see what I mean. In this image, the colonel's head is actually above the square, which I really like. Can you do this?
2. Here are my thoughts on coloring: please color his outline in black. As you will notice from the KFC logo, they use a two different shades of tan on the colonel's skin tone. Can we do something like that? Also, if we can use the green color (the color you have already used) for the tilted square in the background, I think it would look great. Perhaps, even a thin yellow line outlining the tilted square would make it pop. Whatever you think here...
3. Would it be possible to add a small round button or pin on his lapel that has the initials "RMC." I know it would be small but I think it will be a cool addition. The letters "RMC" could actually follow the shape of the circular button instead of being straight across. In other words, the top and bottom of the letters could follow the round shape of the circle, kind of like an arch.
4. I am thinking I have too many words in the name. Since I added the RMC letters on the button or pin on the lapel, what if we change the name to Fat City Scholarship Fund (removing "at Rocky Mountain College")? It would look great to have the words "Fat City" larger underneath the image (like the letters "KFC" in its logo) and "Scholarship Fund" in smaller letters underneath that. I also like the fact, in the KFC logo, the "KFC" letters actually run into the tilted square a little bit (since the square tilts down on the right). If might look nice if the words "FAT CITY" were in all caps and in a somewhat fat font (in green) and "Scholarship Fund" in first letter caps only (in the same gold you already have in your images). A line separating the two rows of words might look great too. Whatever you think..
5. Lastly, I really like your image #5 where you can see the suit jacket and the tie a little but the face is the most prominent aspect of the image. I think we can still get the button of "RMC" in the image. What do you think?

I hope I am not being too picky here. Like I stated above, I am new to this process and am unsure how much guidance I should be giving. Thanks again for your images; you really captured his likeness in a way that will resonate with those that knew and respected him.

Take care,
Mick

These look fantastic! As you can tell from my rankings, I really like your images. If I can think of any changes, I will leave you a message soon. Again, nice job!

Come to think of it, can you try changing the font on FAT CITY to a block style like Arial or something similar? Not sure if it would make a big difference but maybe we should try to make it a little fatter (no pun intended!). Please keep the Scholarship Fund font the same. Everything else looks great!

One last request (please): please look at image ranking #2 (from user ibot). This user created a unique concept with the man's image in a book. Could you use the same color scheme as the currently-ranked #1 submission and incorporate it into a book (like ranking #2)? Your facial image is superior to #2 and the addition of the book background with your image may be an awesome combinations. What do you think?

I should add that I meant image #2 from my overall ranking not your #2 ranking. I am assuming you knew that but I wasn't very clear in my description. Thanks again!!

Hi Mick, thanks again for the feedback. Here's the updated version using more bold font #26

In regards to your request about using book like ibot's entry, I'm afraid I'm not allowed to do that as logoturnament rules says that designers should have not using another designer's concept. I hope you can understand the situation. However, instead of using a book, I'm using graduation cap at #25 which I think its really related with scholarship theme. Let me know what you think

Thanks,
Ryo

I requested that all submitters use a book concept, as it best encompasses our scholarship's intent. Please reconsider as we like your facial image far more than any other so far (in addition your color choices and fonts are exactly as we would like).

Thanks again,
Mick

How about this instead of the book idea? What if you were to change the RMC pin on his lapel to be similar in shape to your entry #6? In other words, instead of a round pin, how about a pin in the shape of the RMC crest? Please keep the RMC in the pin.

Thanks and I think we are extremely close now!

hmm... I'm afraid that will make the pin more like cop badge and it's too complex in a small scale.. besides, the other designer has already used it too. You can see how it looks at entry #17

I know maybe you're still figuring out what else that can be done to improvise the logo.. but I suggest that you keep it simple, nice and clean so the logo will become memorable and convey the message of the scholarship of one of Rocky Mountain College's most generous benefactors.. :)

as you can see at KFC logo for example... nothing fancy and complex right? Just simple silhouetted face in a square but it's really iconic and memorable..

Of course these opinions are just from my personal point of view as a designer.. just wanna share my thoughts to you.. what do you think?

Thanks!

All my best,
Ryo

Could you please reverse the colors in the background (from green background with yellow rays to yellow background with green rays).

Lastly, could you change the outline color from yellow to the green?

Could you please change the yellow border color on image #31 to black? I think this will make the background with the lines stand out more. Then I think we have a completed logo and it is awesome! I appreciate your hard work and creativity on this. We all like it!

Thanks for the final change and take care,
Mick

These look great! One last small change: could you please make the black border line a little more thin on images #40 and #37? I think we will be done. You have done an amazing job!

Thanks,
