What We Do
We recruit, train, and support volunteers in our public schools and facilitate school-community partnerships in the town of Falmouth, Massachusetts (Cape Cod).

Education
Color Preferences
We prefer a multi-colored logo. Maroon (Pantone PMS 188 TH Burgundy is closest) and white are the school district colors so should be given strong consideration in the color palette.
Also note that some uses of the logo will require a gray-scale version.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
1. We are in the process of redesigning our website (www.falmouthvips.org) but this is a good place to look for details about who we are and what we do.
2. Our existing logo is 30 years old and has a dated look. We are looking to update our look and feel with a crisp, modern design that will take us into the next decade
3. The use of the word Falmouth, coupled with our acronym (VIPS) is preferable to using the full name, but only when done in a creative way (such as a web 2.0 design).
4. We are one of the oldest and longest-running public school volunteer programs in the nation. We have 1,000 active volunteers who contribute over 45,000 hours each school year
5. Our programs are valued by the school district and community because they enhance the educational experience of our public school students

Thanks for the quick entries. We are looking to get away from an emblem style logo as presented in #1. We are shooting for an eye-catching, creative, warm, memorable design. #2 is closer in that respect, but something a bit more bold..... also remember that even though we are looking for a colorful design it needs to show well in gray-scale because that will be a common usage in addition to color.

Thanks

We would request that you stay away from FVIPS as acronym. Falmouth and VIPS should be separate.

Thanks for all the entries --- some great creativity!
Here are some additional comments and we will follow shortly with some more details and an initial ranking.
1. Although the usage of wings is a clever incorporation of the letter V and would normally be great, unfortunately another local charity uses wings in their logo so we probably would want to stay away from them.
2. Despite the comment above, the graphic manipulation of the acronym in examples above like #10 and the wings versions are great -- we just need to come up with something other than wings.
3. We would like to avoid a colored background.

Another thing we like about logo #10 is that the graphical "VIPS" can be used as a standalone identity piece

Hello, Designers. Here is a comment from a VIPS board member that I think is worth posting for guidance:

- I think we should emphasize "VIPS"
- I like the arc in design #2. It gives me a feeling that we are bridging/linking Falmouth (schools to community)
- I would like a type font that is more playful/edgy/youthful and less formal.

We will refresh the rankings shortly. The designs we have so far are great -- we love the effort!
Is there anyone else who would like to offer some ideas?

still looking for some powerful and memorable graphics as in other contests...for example, any ideas for picking up on the linking imagery? links, connections...this is what we do in our community...

also, less corporate, stodgy and more creative, whimsical, and action oriented please... too much emphasis on VIPS and Falmouth as just letters/type...

Congratulations top 5 designers! We like your ideas, creativity, and fast responses to our feedback. At this point we are narrowing it down to the key elements. Please keep in mind that we are looking for creativity, name recognition, the notion of linking schools to community, and modern, crisp, creative... We are a longstanding, trusted organization that has withstood 30 years of changes in public education, thriving on community support. Please help us show this success in your final design concepts and don't be afraid to try something different!

And could you also do that change and add the " linking public schools and the community" line underneath? Thank you
