I like the silhouette. Can you try a different text, keep it bold, place the silhouette above the words, put the whole thing in a rectangle that is taller than it is wide. Make the text Orphans light blue, make the background for the text black. Then return the O to a regular letter?
I like #81 a lot. Can you make the star a heart? It symbolizes that our group is reaching for the Father's (God's) heart in what they do to take care and love the orphaned. If the people and word Embracing were white and Orphans was still that Unicef blue color would it stand out more?
I like the feel of the rectangle in #82. Our name is our strongest point though so it needs to stand out. The icon is great, but people need to really remember our name.
I like the heart in #83. What if the only black part is the background for the text and the perimeter of the rectangle, then the word Embracing in white, I'm not sure if the children and adult should be black in this case or a blue color.
88 looks great. Do you have any changes you think would look good to keep our name bold enough to catch attention? I am still open to other possibilities. Maybe try the same icon and wording, but in a circular logo, similar to Starbucks.
89 is even stronger. What happens if we have a white background for the people, but keep the background black for the words and a perimeter of black around the rectangle? Will the words pop a little more than the icon?
An additional color like adding orange instead of white to the background behind the people might be playful. The white would be strong, but maybe try the additional color.
I think I will steer away from the color orange, or light green for that matter, they represent two extreme political parties in Jamaica where we are doing our primary work right now. I like the boldness of 100, but can I see it with a white background for the icon and the black background for the words.
Dear Carl, thank you so much for your guide, i entered this contest late and with very little expectations, reading your comments i got the feeling that you wanted something bolder, and i was right :)
I made the icon-over-white option, but the icon pops even more, and i understand that you need embracing orphans to be the heart of the icon, the bolder part, so i worked with the icon and i made it fix in a more vertical space. Also, i increase the text. The result is #100. I tried with orange, #99. Im working in other options, like adding a square to the icon, or a circle, i will upload those options in 20 minutes more less.
Even if i dont win, just wanted to tell you that i felt happy that you liked my work. Send you a big hug!
Sue (melisari)
P.S. I love team work and feedback, so please keep it comming :D
I will do my best to give you more feedback. Great work. I may fall asleep between feedback. It is 12:30pm right now on the west coast of USA. Thanks for the hug...we all need those...right back at ya.
What about turning the rectangle sideways so it is longer than tall. Use #89, then the words can be large and not quite so crammed. Then in addition you could add two more kids on each side of the adult. This numbers six kids and one adult for a total of 7. This will give the feeling of the need. Also If I can get a version where the people are separated from the words so that they can be used for the different marketing pieces and/or a web 2.0 version of the logo so that we can see if it looks good in that style for our website.
Forget the crowns unless you have already drawn one up. Can you do #105 without the black background? With the word EMBRACING in black. The black background is holding back some of our volunteers who are in the voting process.
