Thanks for your design!!

Entry #1: I like the masculine feel of this one, but we’d like the likeness of Einstein to be a bit more prominent. Can you try some more versions that highlight Einstein a bit more in the design?

Better! thanks! Perhaps try some variations with a white background and more use of color. Thanks!

Thanks for the updates! The owner really likes the way you incorporated the stars in the background in #31 and the text/font. Would love to see more!! Thanks!

Can we see variations or new designs with shoulders, hand(s), and active stances (just half body)? Thanks!!

Please see our recent update to the contest brief. Due to licensing issues we must change our name and character likeness.

Name of company is now "Merlin's Stars".

Picture: Make it look half Einstein/ half Merlin. Ie wild hair, but it can be longer. Maybe a go-tee. No tongue out. Tongue is definitely too Einsteinian. Let's add a wand or a fist or a staff!

All other style elements should remain the same.

We apologize for the inconvience. We weren't aware of this licensing issue perviously. We like your designs and would like to see more from you with the changes above.

Franco,

You are obviously an amazing artist. I think this could be better if you did the following.

1) Can you give Merlin more ACTION in his body? Is that possible? No 73 had more "tilt" in the body and a sideways view. It was more interesting. Can you keep this sideways view and tilt and Add more action??

2)Imagine this image is an AVATAR of merlin/ gandalf/ einstein for the next X man movies? What can you do to make him look like that?

3) Make Merlin more intimidating than sinister. Not mean, intimidating but also compassionate.

Heru,

Sorry, posted this to the wrong design. Here's the feedback for you. Many apologies:

Heru

Thanks for coming back into the contest!! Awesome improvements! You are obviously an amazing artist. I love your merlin's eyes and hair; I think you did a fantastic job with shading!! I think you take No 1 but I need you to fix the following which I know you are capable of doing so I am going to put you in that spot.

1) Your Merlin looks a bit "angry". Perhaps its the crossed eyebrows, or the crossed armsI am not sure. How can you make this Merlin intimidating due to his his presence like most X-men, but NOT angry. Can you strength and wisdom but not anger? How can you make this Merlin intimidating via his presence, but NOT any angry that merlin holds?

2) Can you create some "ACTION" in Merlin with movement of the "staff/ wand" or with his fist or body movement? You can add the movement to his hair and beard. Imagine this image is an AVATAR of merlin/ gondoff/ einstein for the next X man movies? What can you do to make him look like that? An action star that is an older sage. How can you show this guy "in motion".

3) Can you add some "STARS" somewhere? This adds reference to the name? (As you did in 141)

4) For colors, we want to avoid black as a background color since the background will be a web site. How about merlin letters in yellow with black outline for now as you did in no 141).

Hi Heru,

Thanks for the update! The changes are great! Just a few changes:

With regards to the avatar, instead of making the hand so that the guy is casting a spell away, can we make it so that the guy is telling someone to come here/come towards him by using a "come here” gesture (i.e., palm up, whole hand, feathered first pinky then it rolls). This one is like a stop or pushing away gesture. We want to be inviting.

The hair is really interesting, but it looks alittle too crazy and a bit like an undersea octopus. Can you make it look just as powerful, but not so crazy. Perhaps a little tamer.

The hand/wrist/forearm need some dimension and strength. The arm holding the staff looks a bit weak. Merlin should have a strong forearm this looks weak.

Also can you add some shape and dimensionality to the robe in general. It looks a bit stiff and doesn’t seem to drape with gravity. Could you also add a rope around the waist that will close the bottom of of the avatar?

We’re going to choose the artist based on the avatar, the text is secondary. That said, do you have any ideas on how to make it so that Merlin's is on top and Stars beneath? The text can be smaller also. The most important aspect is the avatar. Once that's right the text will be easy to work out.

Thanks for you hard work. Your designs are great!!

Thanks Heru! We've ranked you first because we think you're the best. If you can make these final changes, you will own this slot.

1. change the hair in #187 back to the hair in #169.
2. make the head and hair (rather than the hand) the largest part of the avatar; right now the hand is too big in relation to the rest of the avatar.
3. remove the orb from the staff so that it's all wood. it should feel like it's carved from an old tree. the magic should come from the hand not the staff.
4. remove the stars surrounding the orb, instead, have the stars surrounding the hand spiral up and down around underneath the hand transforming from stars into numbers and becoming a pile of numbers undernealth the avatar (this will make reference to the magic of the stars being the magic of the quants).

Once you do that, we will be all set.

Thank you!!

Thanks for the changes! We noticed you didn't change the stars to numbers, perhaps this was too difficult?

Now that we've got the design settled, we've just got a few finishing touches...

We'd like to change the colors. Someone started the blue and yellow and it just stuck, but the colors aren't regal enough. We like to use a dark red raspberry for the cloak. We like this color hexadecimal # 890043. And the stars should be a platinum/metallic silver, and the text should be black.

We also want to use our original name, Einstein's Stars. We changed it in the contest because we wanted the designers to focus on a Merlin/Gandalf image instead of Einstein.

We also want the font to be in Berlin Sans, Papyrus, or something like that. I'm sure you have access to some similar but perhaps better fonts.

Thanks for all you're hard work! We love your design!

Hi Heru,

You’re an amazing artist and what you’ve done is terrific! We’ve been looking at the first one you did for us (#169) and in some ways we think this one is better: 1) the most beautiful part, head/hair/body, are bigger relative to the hand, 2) we like the circular visual in the hand; however it sends the wrong message. It looks like we’re pushing our clients away. With regards to these two issues we want to have them in our final version. Can we have our final Merlin (#220) have the larger size body and face relative to the hand as you do in (#169)? Can we have something in Merlin’s hand that is circular, perhaps a crystal ball with stars? We think that this would capture your original artistic genius.

This is final final.

Thanks!

Heru, this is the owner. Mara who wrote the prior comments on my behalf in on vacation for a few days and I know timing is critical.

A couple points

1 we want the exact face and body of the first Merlin, no 169 back exactly. It fills the screen. It's gorgeous.
2 we know you will need to have he lettering cover the body a bit or go under Merlin. That is fine.
3 if Merlin has a globe in his right hand, it should rest on a flat hand. That is how someone holds a globe. This way both Merlin and the viewer can see the globe. Also, as mentioned, we want the hand to be the same relative sizing as no 169 . No 169 is the face , body, hand proportions that we want not 220 .
4 the globe in merlins hand should be bigger than the hand. It should have stars in it. It should have stars emanating out, or twirling out of it.

That's all.

Thanks.

Heru,

It's the owner again. When we say we want the exact face and body of 169 we mean we want the exact proportion of the face, hair, and body to the size of the screen an especially to the hand size. In the ones after that, you made the face, hair, and body smaller relation to the size of the hand. The hand grew about 50 percent bigger than the head. We don't want this. Thanks!

Heru,

The face and body size are good, but you need to work on a new composition for the hand and the Chrystal ball.

Composition of hand. If you look at google Images of "christal balls" or "hand holding chrystal ball"', you see a hand where the palm is on the bottom of the ball, and the fingers curve gently up cradling the ball. In your composition, the ball would not stay in the hand. Gravity would pull it forward andnoff merlins hands. I would like you to put merlins hand under the christal ball and have fingers come up gently around it.

Sizing of hand and ball. Most chrystal balls are as big as the full hand. Ones fingers would only come up to the one third bottom of a chrystal ball. A crystal ball is about the size of a Melon. We won't want to have these huge floppy hands overpowering a little Chrystal ball.

We want the Chrystal ball to have the same energy of your first drawing no 169. We just didn't like the message of the first drawing. But we loved the energy!

Also, the size of the ball is roughly the size of the hand. It is not smaller than the hand. It does not fit solely in the center of the palm. A Chrystal ball is the size of a small melon. One.s hand come up only to the bottom of it. In your cartoon, the avatars hands can wrap all the way around it. This makes merlins hands look a bit goofy.

Love it! Love it! Love it!

Can you lower merlins hand a bit? I miss seeing his glorious beard.I would rather loose some of the belt than loose any part of the wondrous hair. Ok we can loose some of the beard but not so much. The hair and beard are really my favorite parts. They look part neptune which I like. Ie it captures the old man archetype very broadly yet dynamically which is very hard to do. When one goes generic, one risks boredom. However your avatar is very fresh.

Can you make the edges on the Chrystal ball more 3 D (three dimensional)? Like what you did with the red cube in one of your logo's? I saw that you have the skill set to do three dimension well from looking at your prior logos.

Thanks

Hi Heru,

Just following up on the owner's last comments. Will we be able to see these changes today? We only have one day left.

Thanks!
