I like it a bit taller. But I like CDL LEARNING CENTER in gray like #164.

Then client has learning towards red so you are in correct color scheme. I think this version will be the final but can I also see it with CDL LEARNING CENTER letter spaced out the width of the entire logo?

Once changed offer some other color variations other than black.

Can you please offer a couple variations? First of all let's do CDL LEARNING CENTER in all caps so it's more readable at smaller sizes. For the first variation increase the point size and make it the width of the word DRIVE. Keep it in black.
