Our Ideas & Additional Information
This is an offshoot of Dreamscape Multimedia (www.dreamscapemultimedia.com) and may eventually become the basis for a redesigned logo there as well. We've had this logo for many years and have moved more toward hosting, thus this contest. We are interested to see options that 1.) hide lowercase letters within uppercase letters such as the Dreamscape Multimedia logo does, and/or 2.) utilizes a nautilus or nautilus-like pattern as a mark. Do not limit yourselves here, however. If you are inspired, let it flow; we are open to new ideas that portray professionalism, reliability, and magic (without wands or stardust.)

Discussion

Technically, the first four (#1, #2, #3, #4) are off mark. We are engaging in this content to establish a new look; not to mimic the current one. We have initially kept #3 simply to inspire work into new concepts. It will be moved to 'not interested' as other options become available. Color use is good, font is fair, bubble-cloud and non-circular crescent moon are out.

#5, #6, #7 - Clean and bold is appreciated. We kept the cleaner version and dismissed the versions that had the beveled border around the letters. Don't care for the little 'hosting' inside the random floating ball. Love the bold font selected for 'Dreamscape'.

#8 - Clean and corporate is nice. Don't care for relying on initials for the mark. This is more of a 'uses capital letters' company, but we understand the 'lowercase everything' technique. Colors used are very nice and pleasing; especially like the multiple colors in the 'feathered circle' element, but don't care for the element itself. So far, this example most closely extends into the feeling of professionalism we would like to exude.

#9, #10, #11 - USES THE NAUTILUS SYMBOL! THANK YOU FOR HEARING US! Stylized (nice) but too "80's pop". We like the white fade used on the shell. Overall, the logo has a very 'sea foam' feel; too soft.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUBMISSIONS SO FAR. YOUR WORK IS APPRECIATED!

Logo Designer
Hello! Here are some hints for getting the most out of your contest:

~~ Rank designs daily -- this will encourage more participation.
~~ Ranking designs daily will also keep your contest from getting cluttered.
~~ The more feedback you provide, the better results you are going to see.
~~ Designers are not offended by "Not Interested"
~~ Over-use of "Not Interested" discourages participation.
~~ Ranking is a non-monetary means of showing appreciation for designers hard work.
~~ Designers earn points for ranked designs. We like to earn points.

1st place - 50 points
2nd place - 20 points
3rd place - 10 points
4-6th place - 5 points
7-10 place - 3 points
10th on - 1 point

More detailed information on how to get the most out of your contest can be found here:

#12 - Nice horizontal layout, clean and a little bold. Would like to see other marks (nautilus?) here and the name larger in relation to the mark.

#13, #14 - Nice font selection. Hosting would need to go below the Dreamscape. Bubbles are a little cartoonish. Nice use of color and gradation.

#15, #16 - Nice work on the nautilus imagery. Colors are nice. Would like to see bolder font(s) and a horizontal orientation. Concern about #15 not reproducing well on a business card. Try stylizing the nautilus further (whatever that means ;o] ).

#17, #18, #19 - Does not convey the professional, reliable, polished look we want for an established web design and hosting company. A bit too feminine and illustrative on this first pass.

#20 - Please move 'hosting' below Dreamscape and make a little larger (at least to the M in Dream). We would like to see the shell incorporate some color and be smaller in relation to the name.

#25 - Interesting icon. Would like to see more ideas here.

Thanks for the submissions!! Wonderful!

#40 - Proves to us we want to see color in more examples. Thanks for that. We also like the organic, slanted look in contrast to the other marks that are a little more 'straight-lines' (#38, #39).

Have anything that uses a little closer visual reference to a nautilus?

#35 - Great work. We would like to see this on white, with a bolder, san-serif font. We would also like to see more examples of the nautilus icon, maybe with smoother edges. This one is nice, but maybe a little too 'edgy' for the professional, reliable, magical look we're going for.

#36 - has some nice elements and the mark is nicely tied to the broken-lines font, but it screams technology or space and we're looking more for trendy-hip-professionals-in-a-web-design-thinktank-all-day look.

#27, #29, #30, #32, #33, #34 - Solid work. We have to allow a majority of them to soak in. At first blush, it would be nice to see marks with a stronger allusion to the nautilus imagery. You've captured the spiral motion of the nautilus, but we're wanting to make sure the viewer SEES a nautilus--even if it's abstract.

UPDATED REVIEW OF CURRENT SUBMISSIONS

Orientation
Horizontal is it, at this point. Mark on the left, 'hosting' on the bottom.

Font
#29 - We believe this may be ~thee~ font (clients can be fickle, of course, but..) This seems to be a very solid, grounded, contemporary font and when we line it up against other examples, it seems to be the one we prefer, with the font in #40 a close second. It might be nice to see a shiny glare or different colors, but if we never saw those things, we would be pleased with the font and the blue/gray. Subtle touches may push this part of the logo from good to great, however, so we remain open to further creative genius.

Mark
woofdaddy opened our eyes to the use of color in this logo which is why #40 is ranked first. While we can call it a super-stylized nautilus, it's more identifiable as a flower or pin-wheel, which we will not keep. Out of all the designs provided by this talented designer, this is the most succinct and therefore more favored than the other, more complex designs using 'fan-blades' or 'circles'.

This brings us to #35 (currently ranked second-place), where Pirciu was one of the brave to incorporate the nautilus imagery. Stylized is good, though the jagged line work loses the polished, professional look we're seeking. #29, by kooldog, has the magic font, and while the mark is okay, it's a little too Dun & Bradstreet (dnb.com) for us.

As of this writing, if we had to end the contest, we would likely try to combine the marks from #40 and #35 and/or #40, #35 and #29.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INSPIRED WORK SO FAR! WE ARE ENJOYING THE PROGRESS AND THE PROCESS. THANK YOU!

#56 - Getting there! Would like to see more variations for the nautilus in colors and perspective (angled, 3D, abstract, flipped horizontally, etc.)

#63 - Wow, very nice. Like this a lot. We would like to see the text larger in comparison to the mark. You have just the right level of abstraction here, where the mark is still identifiable as a nautilus, but it's been stylized. Good work. Would like to see variations using this icon (or similar icons) and some where the icon has been merged with the offset box in #60. Would also like to see a more three-dimensional version of the nautilus shell; something on an angle (but not flattened). Would also be open to the introduction of a secondary color, such as green or orange(?) highlights? Unsure about the color addition request, however. It may make more sense to finalize the mark first, in a more monochromatic manner, then move onto adding additional colors.

#70 - Great work! Love the stylized nautilus and the water effect. The hidden 'd' is a nice touch! We would like to see this in a horizontal format, similar to your #69, and with the icon smaller. We would also like to see the four bands of blue condensed to three (or two?) and the white lines within the logo made a little thicker; there is concern about how the logo may reproduce on a business card. Strong submission; thank you!

#97 - Brilliant work on the nautilus icon, bikinSendiri. Great use of color. Another logo we have to soak up and sit with for a bit (this is a good thing.) Not sure what refinements to ask for on the icon as you've entered the quiet space where we have to ask ourselves, "Is this it?" We are open to any further inspirations you may receive, but with this icon, you are definitely on the right track.

All,
We understand once one element of a logo is finalized, the competition for the remaining visual elements seems to heighten as everyone builds off each others' progressing work and the CH critiques. Do what you can and we'll do our best to be as fair as we can be while still being true to ourselves and the LogoTournament process. Thank you all for your diligence, creative spirit and inspirations.

We have had to backtrack on our design preference ever-so-slightly because we had a partner point out the nautilus is easily mistaken for a snail shell. NOT GOOD. Don't want to be associated with slow; especially not in the hosting business. So, sorry to do this so late in the game, but if we can move back to more abstract representations of the nautilus, we'll go from there. Can't be mistaken for a snail shell.

Wow, folks. We had read that a competition reaching its end sees the quality and quantity of the examples heat up, but that's only just starting to sink in today. Thank you all for your continued work on this contest. In order to provide comments for all contestants, we've begun just making specific comments straight to each designers rather than summarizing and leaving them here as well. One day left!
