Dear Dennis,

Thank you very much for your designs! Of these I like #11 the best as it has a clear link to nature. Also the colours of the leaves are beautiful. However, our students work on variety of organisms from insects (beetles, ants, butterflier ect.) to different mammal, bird and fish species and plants too. Would it be possible to somehow incorporate the variety of life into the designs?

Also, the long version of our name needs to be a part of the logo. If our students go to an international conference the logo needs to be clear to readers from all countries. LUOVA is an acronym of the Finnish name. So we'd like the logo to read 'Doctoral programme in wildlife biology' in addition to LUOVA.

It can also be something completely different from the old logo. Design #10 is a bit too similar to the old one. The new logo could be a little bit more complex too. Maybe the picture part of the logo could be next to the text instead of being one of the letters?

I'm sorry, I can't rank the new designs until tomorrow morning as I'm looking
at them with my phone right now and I can't move them to the ranking box with this. I'll do it first tiimi tomorrow morning.

Kind regards,
Anni

Hi again,

Thank you for the new design! It has nicely the different species represented. It is good that they are not real species but caricatures so that no one gets offended because his/her species is not displayed. Few ideas more:

A minor thing: The fish in Finland are rather boring looking creatures. Your fish is perhaps a little bit tropical to be Finnish so maybe it was possible to edit the fish a little. Here are some pictures of our fish species.

And one mistake that was mine. I left one word out of the long name yesterday. The complete name is Doctoral programme in wildlife biology research. Sorry about that!

Am I allowed to comment your previous work? There are few logos that I like very much and if I'm allowed to name those I could explain why I like them. That would help me to sort out my thoughts. I find it a little bit difficult to put all my thoughts into writing... I have seen beautiful logos but I don't quite know how to describe them. Perhaps the best words that I can come up with are 'light' or 'airy'. Maybe 'line art' would be one way to say it too.

Best,

Anni

Hi again,

I talked with the head of our programme and she too liked the idea of the different organisms in the logo. However she wished for a lighter font that didn't resemble the old one so much. For example your Sunrise botanics logo has a nice font. And the illustration on the left has this airy feeling that I was thinking about. Tampa Bay Center for Relational Psychology is also very nice. Light font and a nice simplified illustration.

We also like the colours in the leafs of your entry #11. Perhaps the orange could be replaced with one of those beautiful greens (one of the darker ones).

If incorporating several species into the design is difficult we thought that if a single species has to be chosen it could be the bear. It is the national animal on Finland so using that would be OK. The illustration could be a line drawing like the running man in your Fighting Fit Physiotherapy logo.

Best,

Anni

Thank you again! If I may still ask for some editing could you edit the bear a little? The blue colour takes my mind directly to the arctic and makes me think of polar bears. What if the text was darker green that would remind people of northern forests with spruce trees and the bear itself was brown to remind people of brown bears. My personal favourite is #29 where the bear steps out of the O but it might be that my boss changes the order a little tomorrow when we look at these together.

I know the idea with several different animals is more difficult but if you come up with something else for that as well it would be great!

Best,

Anni

Thank you again! I have a busy day at work today so I don't have time to rank all of these this morning. We have a board meeting in the afternoon and we'll have a look at these there and then I'll get back to you with more comments if the board has some further wishes. The ranking may also change as more people have a chance to say their opinion.
