Discussion

Hi Raymer,

I like the design of the project name and the motto, this is good job.

But I am not very convinced by the stylized neuron. It reminds me a little bit of the "logo" of a Marvel hero... but I don't remember if it was Nova or Captain Marvel.

1) please try to make it more "neuron".
2) I would also like to see a version with a stylized brain "lead out of the shadow" (to represent mental health).

One possible hint is represented by the fact that our new antidepressant molecules induce neuronal branching.

Cheers,

Max

Great feedback, thanks. I will explore other possibilities and will upload again soon :)

Good... almost there!

Can you try to take out the square frame and replacing it with a brain-like frame.

Hi Raymer,

#10 having the brain shadow that's great stuff!

That's my suggestions:

1) more (but not too much) emphasis on the shadow
2) the brain does not need the white lines inside to indicate the "circonvolutions" of the cortex. In contrats, the outline of the brain should be more evident (black?)
3) why not to try a version of the logo with the "Marvel" star inside the brain,

Thank you Max, more cool feedback :) I will make further revisions and will upload some variations for you soon :)

Good range of choice in there...
...so the "marvel" star was not a good idea (indeed was my idea!), but we need to have something inside that brain :)

#14 I love the concept, but the neuron (that really looks like a neuron now) should be smaller.

What if one of the branch of the neuron is going to "discretely" come out of the brain and actually forming the line dividing the name of the project from the motto. The line (neuronal branch) should of course terminate as a neuron with the nice "synaptic buttons" as you already put on each branch... just an idea!

Also, is it possible to have the shadow of the brain black.... the shadow represents the diseased "depressed" brain, so we should not see any "branching neuron" in it.

#16 Made the shadow black and also created the neuron line too :)

#18 made the neuron inside the brain a tad smaller.

Raymer,

just some last comments before I will collapse in bed:

1) a colleague would like to see #10 with the new "neuronal branching-like" line (this line was a great success)

2) I personally prefer #18, but we need to refine a little bit the neuron. The branch from where the "neuronal branching-like" line is coming out should not have any balls (synaptic buttons) inside the brain. The rest of the neuron should be slightly smaller and "lighter" probably a couple of branches less and less balls.

From which part of UK are you from? I have done my PhD in Nottingham and I have then worked in London... believe me... I miss UK!!!

Thanks Max again mate for cool feedback, i will continue on your design now, i have had a good 8hours myself (makes a change from 4-6hrs), the changes you say should be no problem so i will upload again soon. I am from Staffordshire in UK mate, and i really dont know why you miss it - its FREEZING right now :(

Ray,
here is freezing as well... of UK I miss the "easygoing" attitude!

Now let's go back to business: #20 & #21 are good job! The neuron in #20 still needs some changes (see uploaded file).

1) #20: As suggested by my colleague Nataly, we probably do not need the synaptic buttons of the neuron inside the brain and also the nucleus can be omitted. Practically, we need to have the neuron a bit more real and less cartoon like...

2) #20 and #21: My personal suggestion is also to give a little bit of slight "movement" to the straight line (which is now an emerging neuronal branch) which is dividing the name of the project from the motto... I don't know how and this is up to you Ray!

3) please increase the shadow in #21 as it is in #20

Cheers mate

#27: YEEEESSSS.... well done Ray!!!

1) please put exactly the same line ending of #25 (i.e. the synaptic buttons) and...
...2) this idea is coming from Dr. Nataly... and I quote: "the curve of the line emerging from the brain looks like an electroencephalogram"... CORRECT Natty! and I suggest to make it a Theta Wave which is the one also recorded during meditation in Buddhist monks (...a bit of mysticism to get out of the shadow!). Ray please see the new uploaded file: from 0.6 just to the top of the peak at 0.8...

Guys I am enjoying this team work between scientists and designers very much!!!

I am struggling to get the exact piece you want for the theta wave, as when the line peaks, its colliding with the text, i will upload again soon, once ive give it another go. In the meantime #29 is where i am so far :)

Hi Ray,
following a collection of feedbacks from different people (in the field and not), we come to the conclusion that the brain is not always recognized as so...

Therefore Nataly came out with a possible solution (see attached example 1), but in this case the shadow (representing the diseased state) should be behind the head. Also, the neuron should be turned around in order to make the emerging branch to correspond with the theta wave.

Clearly mate, this is just an idea... the rest should be done by your creativity and inspiration!

Let me know how does it sound for you!

Regards,

Max

Ray,
thanks for your work and for the patience in following the many changes we have proposed so far...

#38: I prefer it because of the shadow with the gradient gray. We need to pay attention to the anatomical proportion between the head and the brain. Thus, the brain should be slightly smaller!
Unfortunately, my very much loved theta wave now look like mustaches... what a pity. I think we have to delete them and see how it looks with out. Of course we still keep the "synaptic line" but with no connection to the neuron... If you have any alternative solution... it will be very much appreciated!

Anyway, we are practically there... well done mate! This is indeed a very challenging logo.

Thanks, i agree that the theta looks a bit out of sorts there, i will see if i can somehow include it for you. I will do more revisions now and wil upload again soon :)

#39 For the mean time, here it is without the theta wave. Quite awkward to fit it in, but i will continue to try get it looking right - but no promises :(
Thanks for all of your direction and feedback onthis contest, much appreciated :)

...and the winner is: #39

But we have some very last comments (I promise) to address:

1) please see new uploaded file (BrainPosition) for anatomically adjust the position of the brain.

2) I still would like to also see a version with neuron and the line somehow connected... maybe a gradient blue line emerging from the neuron but not going through the face... well I don't know it is quite difficult! It will be very fine also without the connecting line... you decide mate!

Talk to you soon,

Max

Hi Ray,

thank you for the last version it is excellent work... I like it very much!
However, you have seen that also Daniel come out with something very nice too mainly based on what you have done so far. Now that we have a "base" on which to work, I suggest you to release your creativity an give us some more versions.

Talk to you soon,

Very well done Ray,
Thanks for your work... this was not an easy task!!!

You produced a very good logo, simple, elegant and explaining everything about our research project.

Take care,
