Dear Chris, These are great. I like these the best so far of all the submissions that have come through. I like entry #7 because it is unmistakably T'ai Chi, though I would like it a little tighter and edgier, or slightly more abstract. Entry #8 I really like, and I don't know why!! It does need to say T'ai Chi more than it does... but it's got the right feel. Keep going, please!
Chris -- I immediately liked the tightened up sample. Just for grins, what would this look like if the figure was more abstract and stylized? I've been suggesting to some of the designers that I'd like people to look at this design and think this logo represents the FUTURE of T'ai Chi... but with roots in the past. Can't wait to see your next ideas.
Hi Chris -- You might notice I've re-ranked the designs again after looking at them several times. Let me ask you this question: If you didn't use the text, and only focused on a design that pictorially said "America's T'ai Chi Champion" would that change what you've come up with?
I've been giving this one a lot of thought, trying to come up with something that could be associated with "American T'ai Chi Champion" as you suggested. For the first I've just added a Ying Yang to the background to try to give it more of a T'ai Chi feel. For the second I tried doing a more abstract version of the silhouette used in previous entries and incorporated stripes and a blue and red colour scheme (I know you said you didn't want cheesy stars and stripes and blue and red logos, but I thought I'd put this forward anyway in the hope that it wouldn't come across as cheesy). Anyway, I've really got this on the brain now so I may be able to come with a new idea or idea but in the meantime please let me know what you think of these two...thanks again
Dear Chris -- Thank you for this entry. I really think you are on the right track, although the design lacks something (??). But my partner and I both like it a lot. It's non-literal, has motion and does incorporate the yin/yang to give it a sense of T'ai Chi. The design in its present version doesn't feel "durable" (it's the best word I could come up with). Could someone look at this design in 10 years and still say, "that's a compelling mark?"
Will you still be "America's T'ai Chi Champion" in 10 years?? You might need another logo then :-)
Just kidding! Thanks for taking the time to give us all feedback, if you take a look around you'll see it's becoming a rare commodity around here lately. I'll keep thinking about it and hopefully I'll come up with something you'll like before deadline. Thanks again!
