Top Three Things to Communicate

#1 - We are looking for a symbol as the main component.
#2 - Quality of Life through Movement (enhancing mind and body)
#3 - Exceptional service and quality.

Our Target Audience:

Our demographic ranges from 0-99 year olds. We are a family-friendly facility for the avid fitness, aquatic, community and outdoor enthusiasts.

Color Preferences

Natural and Rich Hues (greens, blues, chocolate brown, rich reds)

Our Ideas and Additional Information:

The Community Recreation Center (CRC), a 90,000 sq. ft. fitness, aquatics, recreation and community center, is surrounded by 475 acres of nature and outdoor recreation.

Architecturally the Community Recreation Center forms a bridge between the outdoors and indoors. The exterior design was to integrate with the Boyce Mayview Park setting and appear as a park structure with natural exterior materials; brick, cultured stone, a wood like siding and generous amounts of glazing to allow views into the building during the evening. In addition this allows day time participants spectacular views of the surrounding hills and park, woods and fields during the four seasons of the year.

Well thought out "Green" design elements have been utilized throughout the facility to minimize energy usage such as thermal efficient glass, super insulated building shell, the use of natural light and high-efficiency mechanical units, to name a few. The use of high recycle requirements on specific interior finishes and the use of native plantings and low water consumption plant landscaping have also been noted as "green" design elements.

Please visit www.twpusc.org/rec for more details and photographs of the upcoming facility. We are schedule to open in mid June 2009.

Ah. Okay, designers. This will help!
From the CH:

Looking for more of a symbol logo without the words Community Recreation Center in it. We would welcome an idea for a facility name if you could think of one after reading our detailed description of our Center. However, the symbol is very important for us to start creating an image for our endeavor. The symbol should encompass quality of life and movement since we are a 90,000 sq. ft. recreation center. Also, we would like the logo to have some type of natural feel (element) to it since we are located in the middle of a 475 acre park with preserved wetlands and natural hiking trails. This symbol could be used throughout the park on signage. We will also use this logo on uniforms for our employees. Some examples to think about would be:

Fallingwater (the red lines symbol on the shirt)

Pittsburgh Dance Council (the movement figure symbol)

Pittsburgh History Center (the red circle symbol)

Eco•Fit is APE's name concept. It's his. Not for everyone's use.
Everyone's encouraged to come up with their own if they wish.

We would like to utilize symbols for park, fitness and aquatics. We would also like to incorporate the circle and Live Smarter PLay Harder as the main message and Community Recreation Center or CRC with less empahasis. Yes, a new name would be considered although not necessary. We are open to colors although would like to stay more natural.
