Fifth Annual Kansas City Ability Day
Promises More Education and Recreation
Teaching disabled individuals and families to stay active and live well
On Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the City of Grandview Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Fifth Annual Kansas City Ability Day/Recreation and Education Fair at ‘The View’ community center, 13500 Byars Rd., in Grandview, MO. This year, The View is partnering with The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City for their Ability Quest annual run/walk.
Individuals with disabilities and their families are welcome to attend the event free of charge to learn what Kansas City and Midwest agencies, organizations, and providers can do for them and their loved ones living with disabilities.
Here is the schedule:
8:00 AM Ability Quest Run Begins
9:00 AM Ability Quest Walk Begins
10 AM 1 PM Ability Day Events – Softball, Zumba, Golf, Soccer, Adapted Bikes,
Archery, Swimming, Baseball, Track & Field, Rock Climbing,
Youth Wheel Chair Basketball and Ballroom Dancing.
Slugger, the Royals mascot will also be on hand to share in the festivities. Individuals and families of all ages are welcome to participate in various adapted programs and sports during the event. The sporting events will be hosted by organizations that offer camps, clinics and/or sessions in a particular sport.
Chris Cakes, the famous pancake flippers, ice cream vendors and other refreshments will be available. To sign up, individuals and families can contact Lynn Howard, event organizer and Aquatics Coordinator at “The View” by calling 816-316-4888.
“I am thrilled to once again have the opportunity to increase community awareness of this important event and to be partnering with The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City,” stated Lynn Howard. “It is so gratifying to see the big smiles on the faces of the children and families enjoying the activities.”
