I am definitely a fan of this design (entry #7). It speaks more clearly to the message I'm trying to get across. The one thing I feel I'm missing is the "transportation" feel. You're the creative director here...what would be your suggestion for bringing that element into the mix? Perhaps, even in place of the boat. I ask, because the first two words of the company name say 'water.'
Well, transportation is usually represented in logos abstractly with arrows, swooshes, etc....something that says "movement", contrarily, blatant and to the point would just be a truck, boat, plane, etc.
That's why I kind of combined the two aspects with a swooshy, abstract boat...lol.
Sometimes with a simple graphic, it's hard to capture the essence of everything a company does. I mean, look at the US post office logo...it's an abstract eagle. Does it necessarily say "we deliver mail"? No, but it does convey a feeling of quick movement. Or Nike, with it's swoosh. Does it say, "we make gym shoes"? No, but again, conveys a feeling of movement and speed. Apple computers, UPS, FedEx, etc, etc. What makes their symbols strong is the simplicity. But do any of them really say what each company does? Not really.
I'm just saying look at it from a different perspective and try to see where I'm going with this.
Anyway....Let me put a little thought into it and see what I can come up with that captures both Marine and Transportation. Also, let me know what you think about what I said and we'll see if we can come up with something together. I may be the "creative director", but communication between us both is the only way we'll nail down exactly what you're looking for.
Get back to me when you get a chance, and in the meantime, I'll keep working on some ideas.
Brian, I do take your point and agree on several levels. Sometimes when you have a strong idea in your mind, it takes time to process. My orginal vision reflected the way you have the name designed with a boat "coming out" of one end, and the other end had a truck/semi "coming out" of the other side of the word. Both images whould be abstract, and only a visual representation of the fronts of the images. Front of boat on the word "Blue." Front of truck is revealed from the end of the word "water".
Yeah, please understand that I wasn't trying to persuade you to shy away from what you expected or envisioned...I hope it didn't come across that way. I was more or less just trying to explain why I used the concept I did.
I'll play around with your idea and see if I can come up with something with some balance and flow to it.
I've been trying to put something together revolving around your idea. I just can't seem to get it to balance right...it looks too busy and just doesn't seem to flow.
I have a little time left though, so I'll keep working it.
