Our Ideas & Additional Information
Blue Ridge Texas, a History
Location: Blue Ridge is at the intersection of State Highway 78 and Farm Road 981, in northeastern Collin County, Texas. For those of us that might be a little more technical minded, Blue Ridge is positioned 33.29 degrees north of the equator and 96.39 degrees west of the prime meridian. The distance from Blue Ridge to Washington DC is 1195 miles and to the Texas state capital is 221 miles as the crow flies.

Blue Ridge is on land originally owned by Matthias Mowry, who received a land grant from the Republic of Texas for his service in the Texas Revolution. Blue Ridge was established in 1876 and named for its hilltop location and the blue-flowering grass that grows in the area; from a distance the grass looks like a blue haze.

Post Office

In 1876 a post office was established at Blue Ridge with William "Daddy" Worden as postmaster. The current Post Office is at 301 S. Business Highway 78 Blue Ridge, Tx. 75424-9998

Education

The first school was taught by Jim Gober in 1886 in a log house which was equipped with peg-legged benches. The City of Blue Ridge is served by the Blue Ridge Independent School District. Blue Ridge ISD also serves a very small portion of Fannin County.

Through Time

Blue Ridge Photos

In 1877 a cotton gin, sawmill, and gristmill were constructed in Blue Ridge. By 1900 the community had an estimated population of just under 400, which increased to 600 by 1915. That same year the Greenville and Whitewright Northern Traction Company (later the Greenville and Northwestern Railway) built a railroad line from Blue Ridge to Anna, twelve miles northeast. The line was abandoned five years later.

On October 8, 1919, a tornado struck Blue Ridge, killing seven people and destroying over $100,000 worth of property. The town recovered, however, and by 1930 its 450 residents had electric and natural gas utilities, a telephone exchange, paved roads, a high school, and more than twenty businesses. Blue Ridge incorporated in 1936, and by 1940 it had thirty businesses serving more than 400 residents.

Mural

Although Blue Ridge weathered the Great Depression better than most Texas towns, after the 1930s the number of businesses there steadily declined. Mechanization of farming and job opportunities in the Dallas area after World War II contributed to this decline. In 1960 Blue Ridge had 350 residents served by sixteen businesses. During the 1970s it served as a retail market for the few but prosperous farmers in the heart of the Blackland Prairie near Pilot Grove Creek. The community in 1984 had an estimated 442 residents and five reported businesses; in 1990 its population was 521. In 2000 the population was 672 with forty-eight businesses.

Would like to see a scene of a small business buildings with scenic grassy hills in background. I like the linear logo instead of the circle.

Please look at this logo http://fairfield-ia.villagesoup.com/p/chamber-unveils-new-logo-community-partners-prepare-for-emergency-exercise/900017#.UaFbOWS9LCQ
I like the buildings. And the logo's simplicity but it is recognizable. If like to add a Texas flag off of the side a building instead of focusing on the flag.

I have sent an email to the staff at logo tournament. Since there are only two designers in the contest the system is not accepting my winner choice. It wants three designers ranked first second and third. Will let you know when this is worked out. I'm my opinion, you should win all three slots.

Thanks

the Top 3 spot have to be ranked by 3 designers not design the rest form 4-10 does not matter
