Just to be clear we do NOT necessarily want letterform. We want an abstract graphic (picture form) with adjacent wordform.
Since we are looking for elegant and modern I would steer towards "non serif" but there may be a clever way to use a simple serif to non serif to evoke the idea of transformation that we are after. See the reference image with the very simple "M" which starts as serif and ends as a rectangle - it is a beautiful example of simple elegance, positive negative space (the implied connection with the right most vertical), and transformation. That is tough to do in general, and very tough with our letter combination, but if it can be done that well, we are not against it.
Thanks, these look nice, but I think we are steering away from a letterform graphic. Have not seem any yet that are great. These tend to read too much like F3 not FB, and it needs to be BF if it is anything. Nice idea and nice colors though.
