Our Ideas & Additional Information
We are looking for a new logo. We are an association of 2,500 attorneys and judges that spans an 8 parish (county) area around the capital city of Baton Rouge, LA. While we have a large number of older members, we also have a large and growing number of Gen X'ers and Millenial members. We want a new logo that features a strong and simple mark/symbol with it. In the past, we have used our state capital building (the tallest in the country) along with a wavy line signifying the nearby Mississippi River (see brba.org). The capital is home to our state legislature and denotes an obvious nod to law and government. The river is nearby our downtown office and our courts. However, we are not tied to the existing mark or the assets used within it. We are open to other options but would like to steer clear of several overused images generally associated with the legal profession such as the scales of justice, the lady of justice, a judge's gavel, etc. We would also like to avoid the overused Louisiana imagery of a Fleur-di-lis, cypress tree, etc.
1) The logo needs to work in single color (black) as well as in the basic palette (navy/darker blue, silver/grey, possibly orange or yellow)
2) The logo needs to work when reduced to a small size (i.e. business card)
3) Typography matters (we are conservative, nothing too modern or techy please) Also, The font(s) used need to be public domain or inexpensive if we need to make a typeface purchase.
4) No effects (like pillow embossing, drop shadows, etc)
5) Recognition is most important - (Keep it simple)
6) All artwork must be original or inexpensive to purchase if you use an existing icon or art to come up with your final design.
Attached is a pdf containing a few logos we like. It is important fo the logo to be horizontal in format and include the words "Baton Rouge Bar Association". We will internally use the word "Association" and "Foundation" interchangeably. We would also like the new mark to be able to be used without the text and be strong enough to stand on its own with other marketing materials (embroidery, stamps, etc.)
When complete, we will want the working vector art in original format (AI, or equivalent) on a transparent background. We will need to know the source of any materials used as well as the names of the typeface(s). This job is work for hire and all rights will be transferred to the Baton Rouge Bar Association when the work is complete.
