What We Do
Amachi Pittsburgh’s mission is to empower, nurture, and protect children, youth, and families in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania who are impacted by parental incarceration. Amachi envisions a community of healthy children and families who can reach their fullest potential in healthy communities, thriving and beyond the trauma of parental incarceration.
Our strategic methodology encompasses:
-- One-on-one mentoring for ages 4-18, to help break the intergenerational cycle of incarceration.
-- Amachi Ambassadors youth leadership development to empower youth to champion their own cause, become civically engaged, and impact systems level change using their powerful voices and compelling stories.
-- Family strengthening and reunification support to strengthen family ties that help reduce trauma for children and recidivism when parents are reentering society.
Additionally, Amachi is officially certified by The Sanctuary Institute, a trauma-informed organizational framework, to ensure that our staff, board, and volunteers are infused in our work and operational culture. By adopting Sanctuary, Amachi demonstrates its commitment to fostering and encouraging a safe, nurturing environment for all members of the Amachi "family" to heal, grow, and thrive.
The target audience are youth and families impacted by parental incarceration. Due to disproportionate representation in the criminal justice system, over 80% of our population identifies as Black or African American. Our youth are aged 6 - 18 and live within the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
Color Preferences
While we have historically used Gray (55565B) and Green (7FBA42), Amachi is very interested in exploring new colorways. Our organization is interested in exploring jewel tones--like purples, oranges, blues, and reds.
Our Ideas & Additional Information
Amachi has been interested in a few avenues... including:
- Maintaining continuity of its hands in a new, updated form.
- Exploring the inclusion of the Sankofa bird and its symbology.
- Bringing in fonts connected to African heritage.
For any design, we want a logo that looks fresh, modern, timeless, and attracts youth.
UPDATE: WE ARE ALSO LOOKING TO INCORPORATE THE TAGLINE "Amplify. Activate. Advance." into our logo design!
UPDATE: WE REALLY LIKE THE FONT USED IN THE "UNIKO" LOGO PROVIDED AS A SAMPLE. WE'D LOVE TO SEE LOGOS USING THAT AS AN INSPIRATION!
