#17, we like the concept overall. For the solar panel, we think it's necessary to use a conventional solar panel color (deep indigo), so that people immediately recognize that the mark represents a solar panel. The 3D effect on the solar panel looks great!
I was going for something really abstract, so I chose the burnt orange for the panel color. I do like how the indigo stands out here. Let me know what you think.
#20 is our favorite. It's now much more recognizable as a solar panel. We've commented to others that we're not particularly keen on the plus/minus being placed between EFRC and CST as it seems to imply "EFRC plus or minus CST." As if CST is a standard deviation of EFRC.
If you could think of another creative placement for the +/- that would be great! Remember that half of our work also involved batteries, so any ideas for representing batteries abstractly would also be great.
Please have a look at the color scheme that's linked under main discussion comments for more ideas on colors to use.
Perhaps consider incorporating our burnt orange color into some of the text, now that you've removed it from the solar panel. We recommend using it for "CST." There are 46 EFRCs in the US, but we are the only CST, so it seems fitting that the Texas orange would be used for the text that's unique to Texas.
The faculty are indicating that they really, really like the sleek look of #20. We wanted to request that when you try a version with the Texas orange CST to please choose a complementary color for "EFRC". We trust your judgement on choosing a complementary color.
You can also get ideas for the colors by checking out the color schemes for our forthcoming website. The link is listed under the comments on the main discussion board.
Thanks for all your hard work so far! We're really liking the direction you're taking.
Ok. I choose one of the colors from your site to go with the burnt Orange CST. I picked a gray because I thought it looked best contrasted against the indigo and orange. I also tried a version with a small battery underneath the panel. Tell me what you think.
We are not so keen on the battery beneath the panel...we think it takes away from the simplicity and sleekness of the panel. We are beginning to rethink our request for including both research components in a single logo and are now considering it on a case-by-case basis. For your particular design, it seems that less is more, and #31 is the best at this point in the contest.
We invite you to keep trying other ways to subtly incorporate the battery research into the logo, though. Ideally we would like to represent both. We think with the right design this could be possible.
I have a 0% win rate when I'm ranked first for more than the last 2 days. I'll try and sneak something in before the end of your contest. Let me know if you were planing on ending it early.
Ok. I've got some old ideas to bring back... and some new ones. Let me know what you like and don't like, and if there's anything that you would like to see together.
You're not interested in any with the text Energy Frontier Research Center and Charge Separation and Transfer? I didn't think you would like it, but thought I would put it out there in case.
In #120 and #121 I made a border around the panel that looks pretty cool and will be very nice if you decied to use this logo on a non-white background. I'll upload an example.
We don't think the text is such a great idea because when the logo is hidden in the corner of powerpoint slides (which is going to happen often) the text will be too small to read and thus distracting.
Well as far as the text is concerned. You can have it, and I'll include it with the source file if I win. Just don't use it where you don't want it. Which text version did you prefer? #109 #110 or both?
I better include one with your #666666 gray for good measure.
I think that's it for me for now. Let me know if you want to see any changes, if it's after the contest has ended then just remember you'll have to rank me in 1st in order for me to upload new files.
I would probably like to resubmit #125 with either (or both) the drop shadow behind the panel lighter and more space between the the panel and the text.
