These designs are all very impressive. I would say that they all take the idea of a logo very literally, perhaps more literally than we had intended. They are all very subtle. I like the use of the hand motif in most of them. Our visual messaging may be used for things like general signage in public areas, small signs in the hospital patient room, computer screen savers, and so on, where we intend to elicit action by the people seeing it, so the messaging can be more explicit. An idea that we have found lacking in all the existing visual messaging about hand washing is patient-centeredness. The reason why we do it is to protect the patient from harm. I don't know how to communicate this sence of concern for the vulnerable, other-directedness, and professional duty, but it would be nice to have a few designs that tried to use that idea too. We produced a positive example of this using a photograph of a pair of hands holding a newborn baby with the caption something like "you hold someone's life in your hands."
