Thanks! I love your comment...and I agree. I got a chuckle out of that. Your logo entries are awesome. Its amazing - you actually read the contest brief and put stuff up that I wanted to see. LOL You'd think everyone would do that! There are so many logos of yours I like elements of, this might be long email.
Entry #140 - I like the concept of having a bright background box. Can you make the background box bigger so the words don't bleed off the sides? It looks ok with the e because that's in black, but doesn't work for the D. Also would you mind removing the gradient from the middle of the orange box?
After you've implemented the above, I'd like to see one version of this logo concept with the font you used in Entry #142? Would also like to see different color combinations too - I'm really digging the tabloid-Web 2.0 of the orange, pink and blue from http://buzzfeed.com/politics. I want the logo to look simple, clean and loud all at the same time if that's possible.
Entry #133 - really liking this font. Just not a fan of gradients in general. Would you mind removing that? Also, the white edges and the dropshadow - can you remove those as well? Would love to see this one with a more flat, solid look in the buzzfeed.com pink/orange. Also, can you play around with some different variations on word placement? Side by side like #133 is now. Also, one where "Daily" is smaller and placed above "Surge" somewhere...maybe to the right of the S so it fits in the space there? Any other ways you want to funk this one up I'm game with seeing. I just don't want it to be too retro and not enough Tabloid Headline/Web 2.0 feel
Entry #134 - this is just cool, period! Reminds me of a tough motorcycle jacket logo :-) It might not be the right fit for this project, but I'd like to see what the font looks like with the dropshadow removed. It might be clean enough then to be a really great fit. I'd like to see one version flat with no font outline, and then another where you keep it but just drop the shadow. Pick whatever color you think this one will look best in. Might not look bad in all black as one possible option.
#143 - Love what you did with the word Daily. VERY TABLOID! Can you drop the gradient in the red box and the blue/green line altogether? Also, I'm not feeling the handwriting font you used for "Script". Would like to see different options for this word. I'm trying to stay away from red since alot of my future competitors websites are red and black. That's why I'm trying out some other color combos. This one could be really cool.
Any other completely new and fresh design concepts are welcome! You've rocked it so far. Would love to see what else you have up your sleeve. Thanks man!
Thanks Don! I really liked your first round of logos. I'd really like to move you into the top 5 before the general round ends tonight. I am super psyched to see what you come back with :-)
Hi Don! Thanks for your new round of logos! The concept I want to move forward with and really fine tune with you is Entry #251. The font is great. Would also like to see it in a font that looks more like the "Blesk" logo I uploaded to the contest brief. But I am happy with what you've used.
Color - The pink is a bit bright though. Can you match the pink from http://buzzfeed.com/politics That's the darker pink I have the other designers working with. I'm also open to seeing version of that in totally different tabloid-style colors.
I want to land the perfect font for the word daily. The current retro handwriting font is just not clicking with the font for Daily. Can you try some other sans serif fonts? I like the "idea" the guy stumbled upon with Entry #86 (idea only - its an ugly design). Maybe one where Daily is boxed in pink and Surge is in the orange (from Buzzfeed logo) and another where Surge is black. Maybe one where Daily is boxed in black and Surge is in pink? I don't know....just different combos!
Can we also try a few with the word Surge UNDER the pink box containing Daily....
Any other ideas you have along these lines I'd LOVE to see. Maybe try incorporating a "volt" like designer "Illumina" has into her designs?
I also need an avatar (like my #1 ranked entry has) that can either be used stand-alone (but based off the logo) or maybe in the logo
Thanks for the updates! #272 is looking super cool!!!
Can you move the word Surge up so it's on the same line as Daily? I do like how the S kind of overlaps the edge of the pink box.
Can I also see a version with the box and daily above the word surge and slightly smaller?
Don't abandon the Daily from entry #251 I really like it a lot!!! Just change the pink and use a different font for Surge. We are getting somewhere with this!
Changes for #348 - can you make the word Surge bigger? I don't think it should be smaller than the word daily. Can I see the pink box end before the s in surge? Not sure I like the overlap...either that or extend it even further behind the s. Something about it looks chopped off. Otherwise looking good.
Changes for #349 - can you make the daily much smaller?
Changes for #358 - this is a great idea. Can I see a version with the words and volt in color instead of white and remove the color blocks?
I see that you are online and posting! There were so many entries to sift through, that I didn't get to check out your portfolio of winning logos until now. Man, you've got some great stuff. I think your portfolio is the strongest of anyone's I've seen. Let's depart from everything we've been doing and try a few totally different hail marys.
Here are your logos that I really dig, for inspiration:
Bob's Audio - This is one of my favorites of yours. I'd love to see something that is based off this design, especially what you did with the word Audio. Maybe that tape can be a line surging or something? I don't know - I just like the idea of having some kind surge go through the logo
The Backyard Pack - My other favorite - love the fonts and how you used them
TK Burgers - dig the font and how you created "movement" - I know you can't copy the "volt" that designer Illumina has done, but something that creates the feel of a "surge" but looks modern, slick and clean would be awesome
bangbang Mobile - I like the font used and the two chucks of color - would like to see something kind of like this with DailySurge and the pink/orange
Curb Side Casseroles - really like the retro font and how there's that cool oval behind it. Super cool
Rebecca's Bat Mitzvah - this is super cool although very feminine. But I like how its clean, has neat outlines, retro font and a sense of MOVEMENT. I want that sense of movement surging through the logo somehow
Fish Bowl Studios - I like the idea of having one letter be a graphical representation
Thanks Jason, I will work on some more ideas when I get back to my design computer later on tonight. (approx. 6pm CDT) I was told by another designer that I could not use the pulse line as it was their concept and they used it before you asked for it in your comments on the contest page. Sorry but designers are very protective of their concepts. Hopefully I can come up with something great for you. Thanks again, Don
