Anatomic Pathology is the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases and medical conditions through the microscopic examination primarily of tissue but may also be of other cell samples taken from patients. Generally, the process involves the mounting of samples on slides by technicians, which are then reviewed by pathologists. Pathologists are medical doctors who do not examine patients, but rather assist other physicians in determining the correct diagnosis of a patient’s ailments. As a result, a pathologist is often referred to as a “physician’s physician.”
