Tips for Contest Holders - How to get the most out of LT

Logo Designer
Congratulations on starting a contest at LogoTournament.com! This message is intended to provide you with some valuable advice for holding a successful contest.

FEEDBACK, FEEDBACK, FEEDBACK!

We can't say it enough: We thrive on feedback. Logo design is a conversation between you and each designer you work with. There are flesh and blood human beings on the other end of every design submitted, and we put our work out there hoping for some morsel of information in return.

We want to hear from you whether you like what we've done or not, and especially if you don't, because we need you to lead us in the right direction. Sometimes the briefs are so slim that we are stabbing in the dark for the right look or meaning or mood in a logo.

This is YOUR business, and providing feedback is your primary means of directing one of the most important projects in giving that business an identity!

RANKING DESIGNS DURING THE CONTEST

Not ranking can scare us away! Ranking designs is a fundamental way to provide feedback during the course of a contest. If a contest has been running for more than a day and you haven't ranked, designers tend to think you plan to be a spectater and not a participant in the design of your logo, which frankly, doesn't really work.

The best approach to ranking is to do it at least once per day and keep shuffling the top ten around. Keep designers guessing about which one is your favorite and you'll see a great variation of designs entered. You will always have an opportunity to lock in your final rank during the judging phase of the contest.

MARKING DESIGNS AS NOT INTERESTED

Use this feature delicately! We don't mind if you mark our designs "not interested" because it's a valid response. But if you toss a design in the dustbin, please try to say why. If you don't provide feedback, we'll just move on. And for that reason , if you want us to move on because you think our styles don't match with yours, then by all means, mark a design "not interested" with no feedback.

Feedback on "not interested" designs can be really simple. For example:
- Doesn't follow the brief or stylistic sliders
- Not sophisticated/professional enough
- Too childish/loud/subtle/cheesy/plain/<insert adjective here>

RANKING AT THE END OF A CONTEST

Designers earn points toward their overall site rank when you award trophies and blue ribbons during the judging phase. The site won't allow you to end a contest without ranking at least 10 designs, but you'll earn favor if you flesh out the ranks a bit more. That's especially helpful if you plan to return for another contest in the future (because designers check to see how previous contests were run).

Think of this process as giving a pat on the back to the designers who put forth effort but didn't get the win.

IN THE END...

We know that running a contest while providing feedback and rankings can be time consuming for you, but this advice is meant to help your contest be successful. If you take the time to participate, you'll bring out the best designers and their best work, and almost assuredly walk away with a logo you can be proud of. If you sit on the bench and just watch, well, there won't be much to look at because we may not even bother entering.

We are here to provide a service, and we want nothing more than to do it well and give you a great experience. But we can't do it without your parcipation.

Good luck!
