So what's up with the little symbols you see all the time on marketing? (TM) (R) (C)
After the tournament, is it required to find a lawyer and go through copyright/trademark forms in triplicate? What's the scoop on the legal side of the designers world? Or soon to be proud new logo owners world?

You don't have to be a lawyer to file for trademark, it's often a service I offer to my clients. It costs about $390 in fees for the USPTO, and application can easily take over a year to get an official registration depending on issues surrounding the mark.
Some companies I highly suggest should do it, most of them I don't think should even bother. It's really on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks. That was a useful post. And I think you are right, Akronix. It doesn't seem like a very necessary thing for most of us...unless our brand caused an international sensation due in part to the awesome designers at LT!
