Is there a particular procedure for extending a contest? For instance, will I receive an email reminder that it is 48 hours till the end of the contest asking if I want to extend? Or do I simply announce my intention in the comments section? Haven't decided yet, but leaning that way since have had a hectic few days and would like time to communicate with designers before narrowing down to the possibility of changes only with #1 ranked.

You need to push the "extend Button" - if the contest is in Judging mode, contact Support through the Help page.
