Hey, has anything changed in the LC rules?
Until now, if one designer copies another designer, is not in first place and loses the LC, they are automatically removed from the contest. This did not happen here: https://logotournament.com/contests/345647/logocourt/20769
Does this mean that now you can copy the work of others with complete impunity?

Copying should not deserve any split, or chance to win from the LC losing entry
Split price is only appropriate if CH wants to combining any elements from other designer.

OR - the situation where a CH requests a design/modification during blind phase - unaware of the rule about copying concepts and more that one designer uses that to create similar designs = not intentional copying

I don't understand, the drawing that LC lost is still visible
Exactly, that's why I asked if the LC rules have changed.

read the verdict :
The entry is too similar and the contest payment has been held. LogoTournament staff will review the contest upon winner selection, and will arrange a fair split if appropriate.
meaning.
better for clients not to be deprived of their favorite logo. VP...not sure if assigned, but if a designer will copy another and loses the LC, the prize will be split accordingly.

I don't think so just keep your VP under 150, they don't really care about similarities between designers, as long as the client is happy. That's why copycat entries are still in the contest.
For similarities from existing logos, they care more because it's about LT's reputation.

I really do try and keep it as fair as possible. It happens quite often that the client asks a designer to use something another designer did first in blind.
The rules haven't changed, the payment is always held for a staff to review it when the contest is over in cases of similar logo within a contest. Often the client goes a completely different direction and the case is irrelevant.

This article describes the thinking:
https://help.logotournament.com/article/136-prize-splits
There isn't a perfect solution here, just a series of trade offs.
Splits aren't quite as common as designers think, and are often agreed upon before support gets involved. Here is the last 6 months:
October: 1
November: 0
December: 0
January: 1
February: 1
March: 3
In this particular content which hasn't resolved yet, it looks like the plantiff designer is going to win the contest regardless of LC. If however the defending designer wins, we would figure out an appropriate split based on our criteria in the above article.

The article is wise and reasonable.
But the LC rule about copying need some improvement.
Copying should be removed by default unless there is a case mentioned in article, so the admin needs to review each case in similar between designer.
So that “pure copying” not have a chance to win or get some prize.

Tyler, Laura, thank you for the explanations, I know, understand and accept all of that :)
What I meant was that until now a designer who copied another designer's idea and came first with that copy was not removed from the competition, only a division was established. But... if a designer copied an idea, was not in the ranking and lost the LC, he was automatically removed. That's why I was surprised and asked if anything had changed in the rules. In this particular case, the designer who lost the LC was not high in the ranking, so there was no fear that the client would get upset.
But that was off the topic, I understand that you have the right to individually evaluate each LC case and choose the best solution for the proper functioning of this platform :)
