I just want to know if I can ask the designer to give me variation of the logo (for example, can I have the logo I choose with tagline, without tagline and only the symbol without the name)?

yes you can. But be sure you dont ask one designer to use other designer design concepts.
If you already choosed the winner. Then after you accepted the 2 files sent to you, you can contact a winner and arrange a deal with him for different versions off the logo. If it does not include to make the new logo but just the winning logo, variations (taglined, no tagline etc. then i see no reason why designer should refuse to do it :)

Cool. No of course I wouldn't ask for another designers concept. It would just be the original logo in different 'parts'. Thanks for reply!
