#4 is currently ranked first place but that doesn't mean I am sold on an emblem style logo though. The mountains in #4 are not really the style of the mountains we have here in the Smokies. The logo has mountains that are rugged and sharp and look rocky. Our mountains are green and lush (usually) and have multiple layers of mountain ranges. See www.greatsmokies.com for photo of our mountains on their home page.
the style in the cabin of entry #3 is too basic and traditional, and the lantern implies a old cabin in the woods that may not even have electricity. Our cabins are new, modern, luxury, and elegant.
Hi Brendan - can you take a look at the log here: http://www.watershedcabins.com/tl_files/images/bearcublogo.pdf It was uploaded when I created this contest but for some reason is not showing now. Can you modify your concept to use the color palette of the bear cub logo? I think the change you made in the mountains was exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I like the silhouette concept but am not sold on a hiker. The gear and walking stick make it look more like a "serious" hiker whereas our hiking trail is really a casual walk-in-the-woods experience.
Here's another idea if you are up for it. Remove the hiker silhouette and try to integrate a cabin silhouette in the mountain ranges somewhere. I would be careful that the cabin, by virtue of it being so small in the mountains, would look like a gamepiece of a Monopoly Board Game, which is not what I want (see my comments on the cabin of entry #3). If you create a cabin silhouette that is at an angle and has multiple shades perhaps it can exhibit the essence of my cabins despite being so small in the image.
I should have mentioned before one more comment: the size of the box that the hiker is standing on is too large and odd. Perhaps with the new color scheme that can be tweaked. Thanks!
I forgot to mention this: I really like the font you used and the pencil sketch filler. I did notice that the E and the R are both the same pencil pressure when they are next to each other and because they are together in both words, they seem to stand out. If you could tweak that a bit it would take care of one minor distraction I see when I look at this logo.
Here are some other ideas to try, if you want. I am having trouble getting a clear vision in my head if these will work or not, and I will explain why on each: - a bear silhouette something like the Bear Cub logo I uploaded. I think this may be too bulky and block too much background, so perhaps you have a different bear style. Make sure it is not a cartoon character bear though (do you know Yogi Bear & BooBoo in S. Africa? It's a kid's cartoon from the 1970's.... that's not what I want. We have another cartoon bear called Smokey the Bear who tells us to prevent forest fires. Again, he is well known but targeted to kids so that's not what I want). Instead of a bear, a deer or an elk might work. - an Indian TeePee (sometimes spelled Tipi, if you want to Google it), although this is difficult for me to envision without seeming overly simple and unsophisticated. I suppose that is why I come up with the concepts and you come up with the designs, but I do want to be cautious that I don't send you down too many roads that might be dead ends and waste your time.
Thanks, Brandon - I appreciate your participation in this.
Hi the font was the same it just went a bit crazy for some reason or other when I reduced it, I have now converted the curves to paths, this might have created the impression of the font filling in a bit. let me know if you would like to see an enlarged version of the logo to see the detail.
Hi Tim, glad to see you got sorted out with Eastbay, I was thinking perhaps you need to go the “Building Your Brand Route”, who knows three years from now you open another Resort and then you extend the look and feel once again, kind of like the big hotel chains do.
Thanks for all your input, Brendan. It appears after all this that I am not going with an eastbay design after all. As much as I like his Adirondack chair (the one he subsequently came up with from original work), it would suit my overall business better than just this resort segment. Unfortunately I was needing specific work for the resort only at this time.
I noticed you withdrew your entries. I should have told you earlier that I intended on ranking you as second or third when I was picking a winner just because I appreciated your input and persistence throughout the process. I have been tweaking the winner with small changes and ignoring the other concepts for a day or two, but I sincerely planned on putting something from you in my 2nd or 3rd spot once I picked the winner and finalized the competition. If you can somehow reactivate one of your designs, I'll still put you up there in the top 3. If not, then please accept my gratitude for your efforts and my compliments on your talents. I enjoyed looking at your work and appreciated your professionalism through this process. I surely think you are an asset to this site.
