Please take a look at #100 - a variation of #75, with a brown color pallet and a texture treatment to the icon. To balance the new icon, I simplified the font.

Thanks for the other entry. We actually prefer the type on Entry #75, however feel free to try different fonts on future designs. One thing that we have discussed as a board is that the logo looks somewhat like a "q b" We like the design, possibly would there be a way to change it up some or weave the UCI into it or some other change. Feel free to try out some new things over the next few days. None of us are designers, so we basically go off what we think looks good, and we are open to new things.
Also, don't feel like you have to weave letters into the design, one of the guys was mentioning how he could see the a U and a G within the design and that got us thinking along those lines. Feel free to experiment with the underground theme or any others you can think up.
Hey there - thank you for your feedback. I'll stick with the font for #75.
The concept for the design was playing on the word "underground" - that is, using two elements that when apart, could not possible appear like anything having to do with religion but when united, formed a cross in the negative space. The cool thing about this design is that people see different things, as though emphasizing the "underground" concept.
I will give it some more thought and upload some variations so you can compare.
