Solid colors looks more minimalistic and stylish imo (more expensive), gradients for me are a little outdated, but it depends what you want to communicate with the logo.

Can you do the top box with the opening on both sides? What are your thoughts on gray vs. black? Solid red vs. the gradient? My concerns are matching the color scheme across a website, business card, etc.
