I went with the American City concept and tried to put a little sport flash of the Sabres and Bills with a new twist. The shield represents security and shows respect for the many soldiers past and present in the City.

Cool Buffalo illustration (#50). Maybe play with using only front of the Buffalo (left half). It's so nicely rendered maybe you don't need to show whole animal. Just head and front feat - and then integrate it with text better.
