Here's an entry to get started. With just a splash of your colors. Not too busy so it won't overpower or interfere with your works of art but to just compliment it.
It may be that the only thing is needed is the correct simple font and possible a paint underscore to make it even more simple. As I add more and appreciate steering me in the right direction.
Since you were neutral on feminine/masculine I stayed away from fancy script as well as very bold fonts. If I can see your signature I may something similar to that as well.
Hi Teresa, I like the nice clean font. I think it might be easier to read if possibly the colours were not behind the font but perhaps used in a bar above and below?
So far # 1 & 2 are lovely without the paint behind them and I also like # 3 & 8 for their "cleanness". It might be helpful to know that one of my favourite logos is Kathleen Dunphy, There are lots of samples of fine art painters on http://faso.com/ that you could also have a look at to get an idea as that is the website provider I use. They are pretty understated but also don't overwhelm the art.
My husband just walked in and had a look and his clear favourite is #8 without the paint in the background. He wondered about incorporating a paint brush as the extended top bar of the T.
Here is this one with the T extended with the paint brush stroke...
The font is so similar to Verdana and is on fontsquirrel.com under sanserif fonts...it says the license is free for commercial use...you can check that one.. it's called Bitstream Vera Sans
I will look at the others on the link you posted and will work on some more tomorrow afternoon for you if I don't get to more tonight....
Yes, you are right, you don't want to overwhelm or distract from your art...IMO simple statement is powerful.
One more entry will start your time line on your contest...you will get many more entries from designers...I'm sure it will be a hard competition.
I agree with you that the paint brush is too much, I can't remember seeing another professional painter with a logoey logo but his point is that is the point of a logo. I feel like that connotes a house painter or a different type of art. For the same reason, I like # 1 and 3 but without the paint behind. Maybe I went in the wrong direction looking for a logo as the one I really like the best is the header on my website. Maybe I should have been asking for the artwork so I could do print in the same. Maybe it's not available to the public? Thoughts?
My thoughts are because you have so much going on in your beautiful paintings it would be necessary to not detract from them with a logo that is too busy. A simple clean font reversed out of your dark background...or your own personal signature that you use on your paintings would be awesome too!
If you like the idea of your signature as it is, you could send me a jpeg with a link on tinypic.com of it and I'll incorporate it with your tagline. If not, I will send you logos with just super clean lines on fonts only.
So you know I took page print of your blog and superimposed all my entries to be sure that they wouldn't interfere with your paintings that you have posted. All the colors were taken from the paintings. Do you have a way to check that as well maybe in Paint or other software?
I am here now..it is 7pm and will continue watching for your response.
Hi Teresa, I haven't used tinypic.com but I can take a minute and join and then send you a jpeg of the most consistent signature. That was a great idea to make sure it fit, I wouldn't have thought of that which is exactly the kind of mistake I thought I might make. I have paint and when my husband walks in I can ask him to help me with that. In the meantime I'll give the tinypic thing a go.
save the jpeg to your computer...you don't need to join tiny pic...just upload your jpeg and then it will give you a link right on their site that you can copy and paste on a forum or message.
Then it can be viewed.
Thank you I'll watch for it....paste that link in the comment area
Hi Teresa, thanks for your efforts on the signature one. I like the darker rust coloured one best. I wonder if it has enough strength? The letters seem to "thin" to be a header on a website. It actually pointed me to the #18 submission when I looked at them all again this morning. I'm in a class today so won't be able to check back until later today.
I did the lines a little thinner. Is there a way for you to superimpose the image over a print screen of your website and blog you will see that it holds up well with the minimal look ...you may like it with a slightly lighter hue of the same color rust to make it stand out a little more? I can always increase the line size too. Also another possibility is to go back to the brush script that you have in first right now and take out the background color. Will watch for your notes. I hope this isn't too many questions.
Hi Teresa, This is still one of the strong contenders but I like the sage green line and wording better than the blue. Is it possible to change it? Holy smokes this is tiring! I'm really trying to pare it down tonight because I have a 3 hour appt tomorrow at 10 and it closes around noon.
I would have used script fonts if I hadn't thought it would have interfered as representative of your personal signature. I guess I stick with what is fundamental and accurate in determining what your clients are looking for more than doing a logo that is visually appealing since that can be done as well.
Hope you have a great weekend, Kind Regards Teresa
Thanks for that input Teresa, I definitely consider it! The contest seems to have extended without my asking or I misunderstood the end time, not sure which so it seems I have until tomorrow to make a choice. This has sure been an intense process and thanks to all who have submitted, there are an amazing number of good ones. I naively thought when I started this that one good one would just jump off the page at me. Good learning experience! All the best Tracey
There are a lot of great designers on LT...I haven't been on the side of needing to choose but I'm sure it is difficult.
There are 3 phases to the contest....you're only in Phase 2 with 13 hours to go and then once in Judging it can go for another 7 days...but you can decide anytime you wish.
The experience for us designers...we are always learning.
