I think I prefer your first phone design. The guy is really cool. Though, I'd like it more if there were separation between the wording and the character.

I like the direction you are going, I would like to see the character on his own as we need a logo and a workable charactor. I like that he is non-threatening, inviting, and the tool in his hand is great.
