I really like #45 but have had a few people tell me the tooth in the negative space looks "funny". Any ideas on how to use this concept but make it look more like a tooth or evoke orthodontics

Can you be a bit more specific? I mean, I don't understand what is "funny" about it, as you put it. I can fill in the tooth and leave just a stroke of space between the palms and it.

On top of that, I can't even submit, being ranked six.
