Hi :) For my entry, I did a custom-lettered typeface for "SnoCal" that turns into a wave/sunset at the end of the word. Both the font and the highlights were done by hand - I wanted the highlights to give it a "holy crap - this stuff is juicy!" feel (if that's a feel)
I put shaved ice in a chunky, old school font to work as a visual anchor and give the brand the feeling that it's established and well-founded.

any feedback/ideas you have are appreciated. cheers!

Thanks for the entry Josh!

We like #36 over #37 in terms of the weathering. We don't mind weathering, but not as much just in one area or the type you used (see 17 and 23 for an example).

The wave on top of "sno" looks like toothpaste to us. The bottom part of the C in "cal" looks like a whale's tail with a wave in it. The O in "sno" makes it look like a comma. We like the sun but maybe bigger.

See if you can make SnoCal more flat across the bottom, but still work the C into a wave at the end. Try to incorporate a wave that looks like this: http://www.wilbur-kookmeyer.com/Fig.13.jpg

Josh. Forgot to mention, although we didnt see eye to eye on some of the elements, that was some bomb ass work with the fonts and highlights being all done by hand. I'm impressed for sure!

I'm trying a "version 2" to incorporate the changes...the problem with custom type (and why I don't usually do it for contests) is that changes aren't really easy like they are if I was just using a font. Since I'll have to re-draw anyway, I'll just incorporate the changes then...just takes time, though :(

Hey man - sorry it took so long...took me a while to get my wave drawing to work into the "C" :)

thanks

Josh!
like the wave form. we dont like the fluff behind the wave.
the sun looks like a yolk to us.

can we try the sun and snocal with solid color. no gradient fills?
can the l of snocal flatten out and go further to the right?

lets try that :)
thanks

That wave is killer. #95 is getting there for sure!

Can you move the tree over in the sun to the left a bit so we can see some more of it. Can you add gulls in the sun like there are in the other logos?

can you make the dark blue outline over by the wave more smooth like it is around the rest of the logo.

love where the word shaved ice is.

the only think we're still hung up on is the font of snocal. Can we see it with something a little more cleaned up? this one still reminds us of toothpaste too much :)

Thanks a bunch

Sure thing. I'll try and have a revised up later this afternoon. I won't have time to draw a new font, though - it'll have to be a regular, pre-existing font.

I can add gulls per the brief, but they will be different than other entries. Don't want to copy (I don't think you were suggesting that I should) - just wanted to clarify.

Here's a revised logo with a new font. It is a pre-made font, but I altered it pretty extensively so that it would fit the wave. I was going to add the truck (per samples/brief), but then thought it might be kinda weird - like having a tattoo portrait of yourself, you know? So I left it off. :)

thanks
