hi Enzo- thank you so much for these new submissions - #121 is particularly cool...i really like the ear position - you're the first designer that's thought to do that.
overall, i really like the cat...the face could be a little more "street-cat tough" if you can work that out - and maybe a hint of whiskers? the freckles that usually occur at the base of the whiskers are always what really says "feline" to me
what do you think about a tail peeking up through the leaves?
some small details - maybe we could get a little more detail in the markings on the top of the crown/head area?
for the eyes, can we go slightly less "limey" and a little more blue-green to contrast more with the red-brown of the cat?
and although i like this font, i don't know how i feel about the sharp corners on the field surrounding it - i see what you're going for....kind of a plant box thing - maybe the shape and color shading could be a little more interesting...maybe it's a sandstone or limestone box with cracks and stuff...and maybe the letters are embossed in a slightly more "old style" font or done in mosaic (i loved that bird of yours!) - or maybe the box is mosaic, and more like an urn?
just some thoughts...
we are also, through this contest, hoping to build longer-term relationships with a few designers that we can look forward to working with in future endeavors...marketing, print, web etc. Let us know if that is something you are open to as well. thank you again!
Thanks for your feedback and glad you like the design. There's quite a lot to think about now after your comments - I don't think I've ever had so much feedback! I'm not sure about changing the lime green because that colour is used in the vegetation as well. Is there a limit to the number of colours you would like to use? At present there are four colours with tints. The number of colours is only really important if you are going to print using these spot colours, i.e. at present lime green, green, brown and black. You could print using four colour process colours, in which case it doesn't matter how many colours there are, and if you are only likely to mostly use RGB jpegs it also doesn't matter how many colours there are.
Hope all that makes sense, and I'll get back to you with new designs soon.
hi Enzo- i will take that as a compliment, lol. I try very hard to give feedback when i see true potential. if i don't care for a designer's concepts, sometimes i don't want to make them go through so many revisions for nothing, you know?
but as soon as i saw your cat, and the ear position, i was intrigued.
re: eye color - i would actually prefer contrast to sameness...so i think if you made it blue *enough* or gold/amber *enough* it would compliment and not clash.
if it helps, i wouldn't mind the foliage a little less limey as well...i'm not too particular on that, just letting you know - trying to think "regionally" - we are in Staten Island, NY...the color (and possibly the plant species) you're using is a little more "tropical" than what we see around here, i think - but i don't want to mess all that much with your vision.
re: color process - i am smart, but i don't really speak graphic design (should have done my homework, huh?) so i will look up the processes that you refer to and try to consider that angle.
JPEGS work fine on stuff like mugs, business cards, etc, but for T-shirts or banners, i think we'd have to have a much higher quality image for the coloration to be accurate, no?
thoughts are always welcome - thank you so much for taking the time to listen! - elena
hi Enzo- i wanted to let you know that my partner doesn't care for the design as much as i do...i would still like to look into working with you in the future (i really do love those ears!), but i know we're not the only game on LT, and i honestly don't want to put you through a bunch of revisions without specific purpose - i know time is money...i'm not "un-inviting" you, i just thought it only fair that i let you know. all the best! - elena
hi Enzo- thank you for this...i have to say apart from my partner's perspective, i think i'm maybe just not crazy about this particular vegetation...i do, however, really like the design of the cat as i said...i'm trying to be respectful of your time as the designer. Another designer went through a bunch of revisions and once he was no longer ranked first, chose to withdraw. I took that kind of hard (it's business, i know, but i'm still human) so now I am now trying to be extra conscientious. I realize this isn't a "hobby" for most of you here.
i was thinking maybe for our website (outside of LT), it would be cool to work with you on a banner-style design with a row of hedges/bushes, with several cats peeking out of the foliage, since that's sort of our signature "look"...
