I like the owl one the best (12). Maybe put a mortarboard on him to emphasize the college/school aspect? I'd also like to see the owl on the left (so the logo stay flat) I prefer the horizontal aspect of your others, but the eye feels a little cold/corporate to me in both cases for 11 and 8.

Could you also consider making the owl green? That might make this logo pop a bit more.
