my first entries - but not sure I got what you want - so feedback appreciated. Question are you in NY? You reference my local JCC (Palo Alto) and other CA ones but looked you up and you seem to be in NY... I previously did a JCC logo for one in CT. Wish I had done the Palo Alto one - it was done by a very creative designer I work with sometimes... #1 has the 7 branch menorah but not sure that is a good symbol or at least how I did it... trying for different from the star... while a J does make a shofar shape I need to work with it a bit to look good. I love Judaic design so I will work on this more... (I teach at my synagogue in Los Altos)
Shalom Business Builders, Yes, we are in New York - Westchester County. Our main branch is located in Pleasantville. We have a branch in Yorktown. And we have a camp in Croton-on-Hudson. BUT we are still a very, very small JCC compared to the other JCCs you mentioned. We have no gym or pool. You understood perfectly our desire for a stacked logo. The RJCC logo will have to stand alone or with the Early Childhood Center logo next to it. We love your use of our branding colors (and your experience with the JCC brand shows). This is a really great start!! I think that we are looking for the RJCC logo to be more compact or uncluttered, something that will be visible from a distance or can be used as an icon. We're not sure that we need many "flourishes" on the main RJCC logo (though we're still open to a bit of flourish that is part of the lettering). We would rather see a bit of flourish in the Early Childhood component of the logo. The bird is attractive and we wouldn't rule it out for the Early Childhood component of the logo, and we would like to see other ideas relating to early childhood education through nurturing play and exploration. Did you also check out the JCC of Orange County logos? (www.jccoc.org) We really liked the Gan Tapuz and J Camps logos, which you can see on the left side of the page. Rosenthal JCC
tried the shofar J & R - maybe? just uploading it for reference got your note and want to work more on this one. - have you seen the logo they use for the T'enna Preschool at Oshman? I did bibs for them and it is cute with a tree of life and they also have one with an elephant... I also like the Orange County ones with the J and the star... not as appropriate with the ner tamid idea or the menorah... I will definitely play with ideas over the weekend... thanks.
We ranked the shofar one because we think that you might be able to do something with that one. But we don't love the birds or the branch The nestled r & j in entry #2 could be nice, but I didn't even notice it at first. We don't like that r. The difference in the height of the R over the JCC in entry #1 could be kind of nice, but we don't think it works with the menorah. Thanks!
how about the tree of life idea and for camp and early childhood add characters .... I will try the yad idea - not sure... #10 this is my favorite so far
if you can't tell I am totally addicted to doing this... no problem if you find others you like too! (this is not my day job!) not sure about the yad idea but tried it... thought it might be TOO religious to put a Torah in there - if your JCC is like ours it attracts some of the greater community not only Jewish. Your feedback is terrific.
Thanks - so am I addicted to it, and I'm not even a designer. You're right, we don't want a Torah. I think that I meant a hamsa instead of a yad. It's more cultural than religious, and you can do lots of interesting design things with it. Plus, it could look abstract. (It could be like the Oshman J or the JCCOC J if done right.)
fyi: You'll notice that we ranked one other design that wasn't yours. What we like about that one is that the RJCC portion is like an icon that can stand alone, compact and bold.
By the way, I like your San Diego Israel logo, too.
thanks... will play with the hamsa idea.... I am going to wait a day or so before new ones (maybe) so far my favorite of mine is still the swing off the J Tree... notice that we could also do the J alone and make it kind of like a person with a face on the dot and even add a kippah! (and maybe feet!)
I do like hamsa's - I teach a class titled "Hamsas - our tradition or superstition that we share with many cultures" - the kids make femo hamsas and talk about their history protecting us from evil!
There are many excellent designers on LT - I know you will meet others while doing this.
maybe you should make a general comment to tell other designers to emphasize the "j" in RJCC part? They are from all over the world and don't know that we call it "the J" tried the hamsa... not sure about it but definite maybe...
Hi. Would you be able to play with entry #28? We like the elegance of it, though we prefer the children from your entry #34. Because the RJCC component of the logo will have to stand alone in addition to next to the ECC part of the logo, we wanted to see two options. First, is there a way that you could incorporate the R into the lettering "RJCC" - don't know if that would work or not. Second, we were concerned that the word Rosenthal might get lost when the logo is shrunk to fit a small space. What do you think, and is there a way to make the word Rosenthal stand out more for smaller spaces? Thanks!
Hi again. Just saw that you posted new options. For #43, would you be able to try one version with the word Rosenthal spelled out after the R on the top? Also, maybe you could make the Early Childhood Center part spread out a bit wider on the bottom, and have the kids from #34 climbing on those words on the right? We are divided here on the chamsa - we got some strongly negative feedback on that image. Maybe you could try placing the Jewish star image at the top of the J, either fully formed or partially cut off into the center of the white space of the J? Thanks, Rosenthal JCC
Hi, One more thought. What about removing the bird and the lights from your design #1 and adding some of the kids to the Early Childhood Center part of that at the bottom? If you do that, we would like to see two versions, one with the word "Rosenthal" written out on top of JCC, and one without. Thanks, Audrey
That's a great last version you just sent!! Could you please use the children from version #50 instead? Also, could you try giving a little space between the RJCC and the Early Childhood Center components (moving the early childhood center lettering farther right and extending the early childhood center wording past the RJCC logo - maybe creating some type of rule above, or not, I don't know). We had a comment that someone tried to read the early childhood lettering as starting with the letter J.
Knowing that this is looking really nice, we were wondering if you might be able to find a different J for this design? We're looking for the same level of bold, but we'd like to explore something slightly less standard, something with a bit of flair.
