a little boxy but kind of cool - however, not too into the fonts

Hi truetodd

Thanks for the feedback.

The idea is based on a rougher "Outdoor" feel ... like the Posters you would see for National Parks.
Link:
http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/national-parks/vintage-posters/

Script fonts can sometimes look feminine and a bit like wedding invitations when used the wrong way. When searching fonts I especially considered the "Whip" of the fishing line you need a contrast that would not compete or take away from the impact of the fisherman. A script wavy font combined with the whip of the line would be to much of the same thing in this instance.

With that being said, I will look for some different fonts for you.

Also, I knew everyone would probably concentrate on Fish and script fonts so I thought that giving you a really cool concept would be nice.

Winger - I do like this concept very much but I am struggling a bit to see it differently than I see a movie poster - it looks cool and classy! I also wonder if it could be used in multiple purposes such as jackets, shirts, electronic brochures -- what do you think?? thanks a ton for submitting these - I am still open to all of these ideas

#15 not too happy with that font Winger - maybe I should look around at some other fonts that really strike me?

Hello

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I re-formated the logo so it would look less like a poster, thus the fisherman casting becomes more of a symbol. I used him in negative space, but he would also work in positive format.

As far as the font goes, that is a very personal taste issue. You mentioned you wanted a script font, so I tried one (#15) that looks more outdoors/sporting (Cabella). I think you should use a more masculine look and feel, not a fine feminine script, more of a bold thick script. If you have a font you like please tell me the name and I will replace it for you, so you can see what it looks like. I think that

Actually, the fisherman casting now becomes more of a "symbol" or logo mark because of it bold solid shapes and it would stitch on a shirt beautifully - in any color ... much better than a complex fish illustration. The fisherman "mark" would work in either negative or positive format and give you that Ralph Lauren Horse type look/feel you mentioned. I will show you examples.

You are always better off with solid- bold one color shapes when embroidering.

Thanks

good feedback - thanks for that - i do like the idea of the fisherman being more a "symbol" do you have another fisherman we can look at so it may be more clearly a fisherman? i am struggling to see it a little bit but I do know what it is
the font on #22 is pretty cool but does't have to be that exact one
thanks "winger"!

No problem, I'll come up with a better "fisherman"

hey Bill -- maybe the fishing line should be a bit longer - looks a bit like a whip! HA!

Client
or maybe thats because of the little star on the end of the line?

Logo Designer
funny, that star was suppose to be the snap sound of the line... guess it didn't work. :)

#45 - not liking it as much - we think the fishing guy should be more abstract like the first one - the first one actually could be a stand alone emblem that would be recognizable - this one seems like i've seen it before -- maybe not as fat! and the had / face seems like he is an old fart -- maybe change to a different hat shape? cool though, thanks

Bill - the River Runs Through movie poster - shows brad Pitt in the river angling, well at least his outline - that in an abstract fashion would be cooler if possible -- i do like the original guy, maybe thinner and with the Features of the River Runs Though it look - chisel the jaw a bit! hope this is helpful

can we through a fly hook on the end - maybe a bit oversized to make sure we know he is a fisherman? maybe maybe not? also, is the flowing lines to the left of his waste supposed to be more line? or is is just in the design to give him some abstract / depth? i am not sure the & symbol or the font / color is there but man it looks good -- would it be overkill to have the outline of a trout on his back that looks like it is part of his outerwear? like you have done with his hair but maybe with some shape of a fish that really isn't too perfect? get what i mean?

All good points/ideas...I will make more refinements tomorrow.
Some answers:
a) We can try a jig at the end of the line but it may be to small, even if we make it oversize.
b) Originally it was more line, but when I coverted it to positive image it didn't translate to well (look at original #3, it works well there.) I will fix that on next versions.
c) Agreed, I'll try other fonts.
d) Maybe just an abstract fin the shadow line on his back wold be nice and hidden.

All good stuff!
Thanks for your input.

truetodd,

Some nice adjustments.

I think a little extra line is nice hanging down, it gives some extra interest, it also helps direct your eye downward, then you look across to the shadow area of the fishermans back and see the silouette of the
fish.

I've given you 3 new font treatments. The poster version of A River Runs Through It uses a roman Serif font like #50 and #22, but I don't think that the best choice for your logo, it's to delicate and fussy. I really believe you need to be a little bolder/sporty. If you like the serif font I would use a slab/hard edge serif like #61

As far as colors go, maybe we need to simplify? Since the "image" reads so well in Black and White. perhaps we use it that way
and only have the typography in a muted outdoor-zy color. Just a thought, I'll post a few for you to see.

Let me know your thoughts,
Thanks

like the fish -- quite different - do you agree? Maybe we could try a few variations of fish like a trout? maybe too skinny and long though -- what kind of fish silhouette did you use? I'd like the black image with the color variations of the fonts -- just picking the right font and the right colors - looking great!

Tried lots of fish shapes, really like this one cause it's kinda generic with a little bass mixed in :) just fat enough with a nice arch or turning movement going upward, less static.

I also really like the hard serif font in #61, very sporty and outdoor-ish. The font will stitch very nicely!
All the shapes are clean and your suppliers won't have any trouble translating the entire logo for
a variety of applications.

Please let me know all the colors you'd like to see (no matter how many) and I will post lots of options
for you. Look at this link and it might help you:

Scroll down the page and you'll see some color combo numbers, give me some of your choices/#s.

Thx

cool - color chart
Green - 5c755e, 9c9f84
Blue - 336699, 003366

do you really think we should stick to only 2 colors? what if we pop the fish with a color too? the deep earthy red of combo? i am digging this design

Truetodd,

Off the top of my head I think it may be to much to call that much attention to the fish. I think the beauty of
of the fish sillouette is it's subtleness. It's nice that it's somewhat hidden in the shadows. The main focus should be the fisherman, the fish should be secondary and not stand out or detract.

With that said, I'll try some options for you.

I think two colors will work fine since we basically have two parts...the "Mark" and the supporting "Typography"

Nice colors.

I have given you some combinations of those two shades of blue/green.
I've also shown then on a earthy/tan background.

I worked hard on the fish to get another color to work, but it looked terrible. Really bad, and
out of place, looked like he had a fish strapped to his back or something.
It wrecked the cool/surprise factor.

Let me know what you think,
Thanks

Bill - these are killer - help me to understand the process now - we like the fonts, like the guy - and we like the variations of these last colors -- can we use them all if we go with these for different applications? the greens and blues are so classy an we think these will be our primary color schemes for sure -- the fish works just fine so thanks for that effort! todd

Bill - I feel that it is our best interest to go with you - no need to really continue with the others. What is the process now of getting all the different variations of the logo - with and without the words, etc -- Stoked, todd
