on #42 if you were to win is there anyway you could alter some of the lines to possibly mimic a Boston landmark building and potentially something like the Zakim Bridge at the end of the skyline?
Yes, definitley! If you want me to do that before the contest ends, I can do that too. Just let me know what the landmark building is & I can show it in the design. I did use the Boston skyline in the logo, but I understand by adding the landmark building & bridge it would make it more recognizable. FYI, I am currently away from my design computer, I'll be back at approx. 5pm (CDT) Thanks, Don
Don, It would be great if you could do it before the contest end. The two most recognizable skyscrapers in Boston are the Prudential Tower and 111 Huntington, they are right next to each other. This shows both of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:111-Huntington-Ave.jpg
Then the Zakim bridge would be a really great addition after the skyline that would really make it uniquely Boston. There are pictures of that here:
One question, as far as orientation of the buildings & bridge, in what order should they be? From left to right... I just what it to be geographically correct. Thanks
Can I see it on the left of the buildings too? The bridge looks amazing by the way, you're a pretty talented designer. I wonder if there are too many suspension lines that it makes it look too dark too, maybe a few options with a couple less lines coming from each tower in the bridge. Absolutely amazing though, your two designs are far and away my favorites.
Thanks for the compliment! Here are the revised designs showing the bridge with less line & also on the left. I'm not sure if placing the bridge to the left on #68 will work as the lines sort of create a left margin and I think it may look odd having the far left vertical line going right into the bridge. (I hope that makes sense) Please let me know what you think about the latest revisions. Thanks, Don
Hmmm upon first glance I think I like the less cables look on the bridge. I love the bridge itself but for some reason the juxtaposition of the black bridge next to the white outlined city skyline looks off to me in some way and I can't figure it out. If you see #60 by another designer (not sure if you can or not) since there is some fill in the buildings the two towers dont look to be so different. I definitely like it just something seems off when I glance at it the way it currently is. Any ideas to either blend in the skyline a bit or somehow offset what I'm seeing? Feel free to tell me I'm crazy too, haha.
Depending on this solution I might have you re-add the cables, I feel like the two ideas of skyline and bridge need to be meshed better. Let me know if you have any ideas for it.
No, you're not crazy at all! I understand what you are saying & agree. Here is a version with the buildings filled in. #70 I went back to the bridge with more lines as I thought the version with less looked a little weak next to the filled skyline. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Don
Definitely looks better. Can you figure out a way to make something like that work for the other style as well? The one with the line down the left? Sorry, I feel like I'm asking a lot.
Thanks. I am leaning towards #68 I just would like to see some other ideas with coloring the buildings or adding a skyline or something. The thing is that in real life the bridge is white, is there anyway to make it white in some way on here. #68 is definitely my favorite, so I'd like to just tweak that one from here.
#78 - Here I added the sky behind the buildings and made them solid taupe. I made the bridge white & overlapped it a little onto the buildings to give it some dimension. I also swapped the colors of 'Properties' & 'Hub' so the red in 'Properties' could separate the grey & taupe color tones of the rest of the design. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Don
I think I like it better but overall I like the idea, and font of #68 better. Can anything be done with that one? Maybe overlap the bridge or do something to add some depth to it?
Hmmm the new design, #79 is too much I think. Lets reboot to #68. How about this, we leave the buildings as is and white. Then the line of the skyline maybe make it look like its going under the bridge and swing it up at the end, so it ends up curving up like an on/off ramp type thing. That will leave the one I like, #68 for the most part the same in all the ways I like it and should add some depth to the bridge as well. Perhaps bring the bridge in front of the last building or draw something like the TD Garden as the final building in the lineup (take off some of the front ones) and draw the Garden with the bridge right on it.
That was a serious ramble but I think its coherent, if you want further instructions let me know.
I'm not 100% on the line curving up, if you think it will look weird but lets basically set in stone the concept as set out in #68 and just work from there. Including the white buildings.
Looks great. I'm good with everything from the bridge and all that. Couple quick points to change and I will end it. Anyway you can turn a couple of the generic buildings into the Hancock Tower (tallest building in Boston) and something that looks like the State House, or perhaps Fenway Park. Just basically fill in the generic ones to the left of what is the Pru with Boston-esque shapes. Really nice job!
Love it. Some of the lines look a little jagged or different width, is that just because its shrunk down? For instance, the new Hancock Tower looks like the line is wider than the TD Garden. Other than that its absolutely perfect.
Congrats! I know you have to send me the .EPS version. Do you know an easy way to convert that to a PNG with a transparent background? You can leave feedback here or email me at justin@propertiesinthehub.com
