#17 and #16, some notes: can you make the dog look a little more like a labrador (I know, that's a hard one to replicate in paper)? Also, please keep "labs" in the same font as "paper" on all designs, we want them to blend in (same colour too).
#9, #12, #11, #10 and #15, this dog looks a bit like it's squatting ("pooping"), any way to fix that?
Thanks Luca, #42 is very unique and has a great attitude. Two comments:
- The written logo looks really cool but from the initial comments we gathered it reads like "peperlebs". I like that you're trying to give us a unique type for this and the visual direction is good. - The dog in #42 has a great silhouette, but I find the center "paper fold" a little distracting. Do you have an alternate way you can "fold" the dog? This is not a big problem if you can't see a different approach to it.
#46 is looking really good, thank you Luca! Let us know if you have any variations on it you were thinking about, but at the moment it's a definite front runner.
Thanks Luca, like #60 tweaks to paper effect but we don't like the shadow!
Also, are you able to provide us with a few colour variations on #60 without shadow? Maybe something that would be seen as "paper colour", like off-white, yellow-gold, etc? And maybe even a version with a geometric grid from math notebooks could look interesting.
#81 the colour I don't think works, sorry. I think the problem is that the contrast is very light, so it's hard to see the folds. Some of the graph paper is more light gray with blue lines (try searching for "graph paper" on Google images), that might work. Also, angling the graph paper on different parts of the dog might help create the illusion of paper (imagine the "head" paper cut-out with lines angled with the head). Also, different colours could work.
#102 is looking really good - can you give us a variant of that in blue (like #46) with the same texture, with and without shadow? We like the font you chose for text, well done. The lighter shadow is better than before too. If you think of any other colours that might work we'd love to see them.
We're very close to the end but I think we'll need the 3-day extension to make a final decision and pick a winner. Here's some feedback from us and our focus group:
We like: Clean and elegant logo Great fonts, esp. #173 Nice colour on #46
We don't like: In our feedback the labrador comes across a little snobbish, and not friendly. Is there a way to make it friendlier, maybe a tongue or a paw that's lifted? The thin lines don't seem to work (#133) We don't like the shadow at the back of the dog Notebook lines could work (like in #169), but they're too close together, they look better in #152 except there it would be nice to have blue lines with the vertical red line intersecting them. Also, if the notebook lines were less perfectly positioned, maybe rotated a bit so they look a little more randomly put together it would help.
#16: if it looked a little more like a labrador it would be a great character
#178: this is really cool, it's still neither a labrador nor a puppy (which could pass for a labrador :), but it's looking good. Downsides: - It's really light, hard to see - can you give us a version of this same logo but on a darker background, maybe blue? - Not sure if you can tweak the shape to make it look more like a puppy? - For a version on white background, maybe just adding a bit of gradient to paper texture to set it off from white, that's a tough one (or maybe use pale-blue paper with the same blue and red lines, that could work).
#176: getting close, similar to #178 it's a bit hard to see on white so you could try the same treatment (dark background and/or light-blue paper) to make it stand out a bit? Maybe adding a slight gradient to the paper like you have in #152 would help? - The front paw rising looks a little disjointed and unnatural, maybe it shouldn't stick out to the right that far? Maybe both front paws could be folded up (like the dog is begging), but they would mostly be folded in front of the dog? - The position of paper red line is a bit jarring, I like how the paper on #178 is placed a little more aggressively/randomly.
Addendum for #178: the paper lines seem as prominent as the paper joints/folds, maybe make the joints and folds a little more pronounced (harder shadow, or some shading?). Overall, the logo doesn't stand out from the white background, maybe a shadow effect like this would help: http://paperlabs.com/download/test.jpg
#190 is looking better, we like the front paw position. Can you provide us with a version with no gradient on the paper, but just a bit heavier shading between limbs to separate them, and behind the background to set it off from white?
#188, #189: nice, can you also provide these two without gradient on the paper, more flat looking, similar to the comment above? Keep the shade to separate limbs and from the background.
Our focus group is getting a little off-message, it seems we can't make the dog look good yet retain simple design. They're starting to lean towards the simpler logos (see top ranked). Maybe we should try your original #46 but with a lifted front paw? Sorry we couldn't make the other one work!
