Can you try removing some of the "feet" from the main font? I think the something closer to a sans-serif font might look cleaner? Even something like Futura or a little "thinner" than what you have there?
Well, I prefer the clean one without the stove, because the wood and flame theme itself has convey the cooking method using the stove.
And about the font, the first time I'm thinking about wood, those early entries were come first to my mind. But when you mention about "modern", you're right, sans-serif font will suit better with this.
